Ford officially confirmed that the brand will be ceasing manufacturing operations in the country. The move comes after the brand announced that it did suffer some significant losses in the Indian operations. The two manufacturing facilities in India owned by Ford too are up for sale and the brand is currently in talks with many auto manufacturers in the country to negotiate a deal. Having said this, Ford's decision to stop the manufacturing operations did make the buyers and the owners a little conscious about the after-sales support. While Ford has repeatedly promised that this will not affect after-sales support as the brand will continue to service the cars via its authorised workshops across the country, the industry still is on a wait and watch mode. Having said that, the infamous Ford diesel DPF issue is also keeping Ford owners apprehensive about the reliability of their cars. Ford however is committed to delivering the best after-sales support and is recalling the affected BS6 cars to resolve the issue. Here are all the details that you should know.
It is no secret to anyone that many brands are using Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to control the emission levels of diesel engines to meet the strongest emission rules in the country. Ford too upgraded its diesel powertrain to meet the regulations set up BS6 norms but the owners of the 1.5-TDCi diesel models were reporting a common Ford diesel DPF issue. This issue is related to an error in DPF regeneration, which in turn reduces the efficiency and working of the exhaust system.

As per the official instructions, the users are required to drive the car at a speed of 60km/h and 2500 RPM for around 20-25 mins to clean the DPF filters. However, many users are not able to perform this step properly while others were reporting that this method was not working. The brand however has announced an official recall and is now calling the owners based on the VIN of the vehicle. The brand is not only offering commendable after-sales support but is also ensuring that all the problems and issues with the cars, if any, are resolved smoothly. The exhaust system will be upgraded and an improved version of the DPF will be installed in the affected cars as a part of the recall. A proper DPF will not only improve the performance but will also solve the Ford diesel DPF issue.
Despite closing down its manufacturing operations in India, Ford is planning to continue the after-sales support and sales operation. A number of cars from the brand's global portfolio will be imported into the country via the CBU route.
