The B1 hatchback segment is ruled by the Maruti Swift and the sales improved even further when the carmaker brought in the mid-cycle facelift with updated features and most importantly, the mechanical upgrade. Now, one of the closest rival to the Swift, Figo, will get a 6-speed auto gearbox with 1.2L petrol motor. Reportedly, the launch of the new model is just around the corner.
This 6-speed auto gearbox will be paired with Ford Figo 1.2L petrol. Yes, the three-cylinder petrol unit generating 95 bhp at 6500 RPM with a peak torque of 119 Nm at 4250 RPM will now get a torque converter. This engine comes with a 5-speed stick shift as standard.
Currently, Ford Figo petrol is sold in three variants - Ambiente, Titanium and Titanium Blu. We believe that the 6-speed torque converter will be coming to the latter two variants. As of now, the price for both the variants sticks to Rs 6.82 lakh and Rs 7.27 lakh, respectively. With the introduction of the auto gearbox, prices will carry a premium over the stick shift.

Feature-wise, we can expect a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power-folding ORVMs, rear defogger and wiper, touchscreen infotainment system, power windows, push-button start/stop, tilt-adjustable steering wheel and several others.
Once launched, the Ford Figo petrol automatic will rival the likes of Maruti Swift AMT (89bhp/113Nm) and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios AMT (82bhp/114Nm). Performance-wise, we can expect that the 6-speed AT will be quite frugal, however, we are concerned about the low efficiency of the engine. However, we shall not lose our hope as the ARAI figures are not yet out.
