We have seen several times that one carmaker shares the same platform with its other models present in the portfolio. Sometimes, the engine used is borrowed from other carmakers. Like the diesel engines of the Maruti are all borrowed from Fiat. Fiat as a brand couldn't fetch sales but indirectly did good by letting other carmakers use its engine. Similarly, the FCA Sourced 2.0L turbo diesel is popular with SUVs like Tata Harrier to MG Hector Plus. In this article, we will be sharing just that with you!
Jeep Compass
This affordable baby Jeep had a short span in terms of sales but attracted the Jeep lovers. A solid SUV with muscular looks and a tough body, the Compass created a huge impact on buyers when it was first launched. It still comes with a 1.4L turbo petrol and a 2.0L turbo-diesel unit. It is the latter which excels in sales number and makes 170 bhp with a peak torque of 350 Nm. It gets a 6-speed manual gearbox and just recently Jeep introduced a 9-speed AT gearbox for top models. Do note that the Compass Trailhawk also uses the same 2.0L diesel engine.
Tata Harrier
Tata introduced Harrier in 2019 and its sales just bumped until the new Kia Seltos and MG Hector arrived. The made in Indian SUV attracted loads of potential buyers but due to lack of features, it couldn't gather many sales. At first, Tata brought in a lesser tuned version of the 2.0L FCA engine which made 138 bhp. In its 2020 avatar, Tata re-introduced the Harrier with the same 2.0L diesel but now with 170 bhp engine and more features. Another interesting bit is that Tata has made some tweaks to the engine and it gets VGT.

MG Hector
One of the first SUVs to come with connected technology, MG introduced the Hector with a diesel and petrol engine. It came with the same 2.0L FCA sourced oil burner which is the same as Compass and Harrier. It delivers the same power and torque figures but a slightly different ARAI mileage. MG Hector diesel starts from Rs 14 lakh and goes up till Rs 18.09 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
MG Hector Plus
Well, the Plus variant is 65 mm longer and that accounts to an extra last row. The middle-row here comes with captain seats and the last row is best suited for children. Another thing to be noted here is that the Plus variant retains the engines from the Hector and this one also gets a 2.0L diesel unit. It is pricier by Rs 90,000 for some variants.

Tata Gravitas
One of the upcoming SUVs from Tata which is the Gravitas will also use the same 2.0L turbo diesel engine. It will come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard and a 6-speed AT as an option. Tata Gravitas is a longer version of the Harrier and it will rival with the MG Hector Plus.
