- Maruti recently applied for the trademark of the 'Engage' name
- Maruti is expected to launch a rebadged Innova Hycross very soon
- Leaked trademark information mentions an all-terrain vehicle in the description
- When launched, it will probably be the most expensive Maruti ever sold
Maruti Suzuki recently applied for the trademark of the name 'Engage'. According to a leaked document, the carmaker seems to be in the process of finalizing & registering the name of its upcoming rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross. Maruti is expected to launch it in the coming few months as a premium NEXA offering. Expected to be priced in the range of Rs 17 lakh to Rs 29 lakh, it will be the most expensive Maruti ever sold in India. Moreover, it will rival the likes of Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, & its original version i.e. Toyota Innova Hycross.
According to the above-mentioned leaked document, Maruti Suzuki India Limited applied for the registration of the name Engage on the 21st of March 2023. Apart from the usual information, there is a mention of 'all-terrain vehicle' in the description row of the leaked trademark document. As it clearly describes the product as an automobile & all-terrain vehicle, we guess this new Maruti to be an all-wheel drive capable vehicle. Moreover, the mention of the all-terrain vehicle seems interesting & surprising because the Toyota Innova Hycross, which is said to be rebadged as a Maruti, is a front-wheel drive MPV.
Here arises two interesting possibilities. The first is that Maruti might integrate its rebadged version of Innova Hycross with Suzuki's All-Grip Select AWD technology. This is the same AWD tech that we see in Maruti's Grand Vitara. If Maruti offers the AWD tech even as an option in its new MPV, it would make it a more attractive option than its original version i.e. Toyota Innova Hycross.
The second possibility is that this leaked trademark document for the name Engage is for a totally new product and not for Maruti's rebadged version of Innova Hycross. If this is true, then it would become the third AWD-capable Maruti in India, after the Grand Vitara & soon to launch Jimny. Moreover, in this case, the new AWD-capable Maruti will sit above the Grand Vitara in the brand's lineup, again making it the most expensive Maruti ever.

Verdict: Whether it's the first or the second possibility, one thing is for sure. The upcoming new Maruti Engage (most probably) is going to be the most expensive Maruti ever to be sold in India. And if it is offered with the AWD option, it will become even more costlier. Well, the coming few months will clear all the doubts about this new Maruti Engage.
