Jeep India has started official bookings of their upcoming SUV, Meridian at a premium of Rs 50,000. To be made available in two variants - Limited and Limited(O), the Meridian will target the buyers of MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq and Toyota Fortuner. It will be launched in June of this year.
While the Meridian is based on the 5-seater Compass, Jeep claims that they've reworked things for their upcoming SUV. The Merdian is 364 mm longer, 41 mm wider and 48 mm taller than the Compass. Also, the wheelbase is extended by 146 mm to accommodate space for the second as well as third-row passengers.
Powering the Meridian is the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine as seen in the Compass. This same unit is seen on several other cars like Tata Harrier, MG Hector twins and Tata Safari. This engine generates as much as 168 bhp of power on tap with a peak torque of 350 Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission will be made standard and will come with a front-wheel-drive setup while the 9-speed torque converter will be made an option. The automatic one will get an all-wheel-drive setup.

At the time of the launch, Jeep will launch the Meridian strictly as a 7-seater SUV only. The 7-seat version will get a bench row for the middle row and will receive a one touch tumble down function for easy access to the last row. Its rival, MG Gloster is offered with a 6-seat layout too. We believe the 6-seat layout with captain seats in the middle row might be offered at a later stage.
Feature-wise, the Meridian is loaded up to the brim. It features a 360-degree parking camera, LED headlights with integrated LED DRLs, LED taillights, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an alpine 9-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, terrain modes (AWD) and others.
