Kia recently announced the entry of its upcoming Carens MPV in India. Bookings for this MPV will commence from today with a minimum booking amount of Rs 25,000. Here are all the details like specifications, features, rivals and expected price that you should know.
Features
The South Korean carmaker, Kia, just like Hyundai, introduces feature-loaded and VFM cars in the market. Likewise, the Kia Carens is loaded with features and conveniences that will make the MPV fall apart from its rivals. Carens come equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with IOS and Android phones, a smart pure air purifier with bacteria and virus protection, three drive modes, and a fully automatic climatic control.
Other than this, the car offers Bose premium surround sound system with eight speakers, 64 colour ambient lighting, one-touch easy electric tumble for the second row, smartphone wireless charging with cooling function, passenger seat undertray, back seat table, cooling cup and can holders.
Kia claims Carens to be one of the safest cars as it uses high-strength steel and adhesives to ensure better safety for the car and the passengers. Kia offers a set of six airbags, ESC, VSM, BAS, HAC, DBC, ABS, all-wheel disc brakes, TPMS, and rear parking sensors as well.
Specifications
Kia Carens is available in five trims - Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. The MPV will be available in three engine choices. To start with, the Carens get a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission and will be capable of churning out 115PS of maximum power and 144 Nm of peak torque.

The second engine on offer is the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine will come mated to a six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT. This engine delivers 140PS of maximum power and 242 Nm of peak torque. The third engine happens to be the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that comes mated to a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission while it delivers 115PS and 250 Nm of peak torque. Kia Carens will be available in a seven-seater option with the Premium to Luxury trims, whereas the Luxury Plus trim will be available with a choice of both six and seven-seater options.
Rivals
Kia Carens once launched in the market will compete with all the six-and seven-seater cars that are available. Carens will compete against the likes of Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra Marazzo, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and MG Hector Plus. Other than this, Kia Carens is also the first MPV to offer disc brakes on all four wheels.
Prices
Though Kia has not yet revealed any official statement regarding the pricing of the MPV the Carens is expected to be launched between Rs 17 lakhs - Rs 23 lakhs (ex-showroom).
