Kia Carens shares its platform with the Seltos and could even offer the same engine options along with a similar equipment list
Kia India has finally unveiled the name of its upcoming 'RV' (Recreation Vehicle). As expected, the new model will be called 'Carens' and this name is based on the philosophy of 'Car + Renaissance. With the launch of the Kia Carens, the carmaker looks all set to introduce the second Multi-Purpose Vehicle in its portfolio after the Carnival.

Speaking on the development, Tae-Jin Park, Managing Director and CEO, Kia India said, We are really excited to bring our fourth product for the Indian market, the Kia Carens. Kia wants to offer a premium and comfortable family RV that has a three-row seating configuration and features fitting in perfectly with Indias urban lifestyle and road conditions. We are confident that the Kia Carens will prove to be a game-changer, and it is all set to shake up a few segments.
The Kia Carens is being touted as a 'Made in India, Made for World' product that will be produced at the carmaker's production facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The new model will make its world debut on December 16 and will be launched in our market in the first quarter of the next year.

While details of the new model are pretty scarce at the moment, the new MPV is expected to be sold with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine options from the Seltos. Both the motors could be made available with manual and automatic transmission choices. While the Hyundai Creta-based Alcazar is positioned against the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700, the upcoming Seltos-based model could go on to lock horns with the Maruti XL6 and Mahindra Marazzo.
