Kia Sonet Facelift: Exteriors Get Exciting
The earlier Sonet was a well-proportionately designed car, and the facelift improves upon it further. However, how you improve something that is already a hit is something that this facelift beautifully displays.
The first glance, it says that this is a Sonet without a doubt. The refreshed Sonet receives design updates that feel fresh. The exterior enhancements include new LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, revised front, and rear bumpers, vertically-stacked LED taillights, LED fog lights, a new rear skid plate, an LED bar on the boot lid, and updated bumpers. The side profile showcases new 16-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the Sonet's interiors now also come with a larger infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster, aligning with the design seen in the new Seltos SUV. More on this in the next section

Interior & Features: Revamped and Feature-Packed
The all-new Kia Sonet lands with top-notch features, including six standard airbags, a Level 1 ADAS suite, touch-based AC controls, a four-way power-adjustable driver seat, a 360-degree camera, a voice-controlled window function, remote AC control, front and rear parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, and a cutting-edge 10.25-inch colored instrument display. Additional offerings include an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, OTA updates, Kia Connect, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless phone connectivity, and a premium seven-speaker system sourced from Bose.
Powertrain: Unchanged Mechanics
The engine lineup remains unchanged from the previous version. The 1.2-litre NA petrol engine produces 82 bhp of maximum power and 115 Nm of peak torque with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine delivers 118 bhp and 172 Nm, with transmission options of 6iMT and 7DCT. The 1.5-litre diesel engine, generating 114 bhp and 250 Nm, retains the 6iMT and 6AT transmissions, and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The Sonet facelift also introduces traction modes (Sand, Mud, Wet) and drive modes (Normal, Eco, Sports), exclusive to automatic variants. Meanwhile, paddle shifters are available with automatic variants.
Launch And Price: Early Next Year!
Kia is set to unveil the pricing details for the Sonet facelift in January. Notably, the pre-facelift Sonet had a starting price of Rs 7.79 lakh for the base variant, with the top-spec diesel automatic commanding Rs 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Given the substantial enhancements in the facelifted version, it is anticipated that the Sonet facelift will come with a notable price increase compared to its predecessor.
Verdict
The new Sonet promises to take the segment more seriously as it eveolves in line with the direction of the competition. While ADAS, bigger touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, etc adds to the mass appeal, the usual engine options keep the trust factor in check. However, since it directly faces off with the Tata Nexon, the road ahead ia not as smooth as it seems. Let;s wait to find out who takes the top spot in the segment as this compact SUV hits the showrooms.
