The Latin NCAP crash tested the 2021 Hyundai Accent but with barely any significant safety features, the car scored zero points
The Latin New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) has crash-tested the latest variant of the Hyundai Verna that is manufactured in India and Mexico. The Hyundai Verna is sold as the Hyundai Accent in the Latin American market; however, the origin of the car that was used in the car is unconfirmed. The tested model got a discouraging score of 0 stars and the prime reason behind this was the lack of features. This was because it didnt come with passenger-side airbags, ESC, and no child-restraint system.
In the adult occupant test, the Hyundai Verna scored an overall 9.23%/ 3.69 points. In the frontal offset test, both the head and neck of the driver and passenger in the front seats were well protected, however, the passengers chest was poorly protected. This is where the car scored zero points. The bodyshell has been categorized as stable and capable of withholding further loads.
On the other hand, Whiplash protection was marginal with just 1.57 points, and with the side impact test, the Verna offered between marginal to good protection with a score of 5.11 points.

In the Child Occupant category, the car scored 12.68% / 6.21 points. It did come with ISOFIX anchorages as standard; however, however, Hyundai did not recommend a Child Restraint System that led to zero points in the dynamic tests. But the NCAP did note that with the CRS installed the Verna offered good protection to a three-year-old dummy. When it comes to pedestrian protection, the 2021 Verna did score a respectable 53.11 %/ 25.49 points, but the car did not meet the numbers as per UN regulations.
Whereas, for the safety assist system, the 2021 Verna scored only 6.98%, precisely for the safety belt reminder. The Latin NCAP did point out that scores of the Hyundai Verna would have remained the same, even with dual-airbags at the front. This is because of the non-recommendation of the CRS, and the absence of side airbags, and ESC.

Upon closer inspection, we can draw the conclusion that the tested model was manufactured in Mexico for the Latin market. This is because the Verna available here gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, seatbelt reminder, and pretensioner, ISOFIX anchorages, impact sensing auto door unlock. The top variant here also gets side and curtain airbags, a vehicle stability management system, front parking sensors, and rear disc brakes. Compared to that, the Latin-version of the Verna aka Accent gets passenger and side airbags, along with ESC as the only optional extras.
