Mahindra has finally started the deliveries of Thar 2WD. The 4x2 version of the lifestyle SUV was recently launched in petrol and diesel powertrain options. Priced between Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom), Thar 2WD is available in AX(O) and LX trims. As per the media reports and dealership insights, the waiting period on the 2WD Thar has already crossed the 1-year mark. The diesel 2WD Thar now accounts for a waiting period of up to 16 to 18 months. However, the buyers of petrol 2WD Thar don't have to wait that long as it accounts for only up to 3 months waiting period. Also, the waiting period for 4WD Thar has reduced drastically. Mahindra Thar: Variant Wise Waiting Period
The Thar 4WD with convertible top has a waiting period of up to 3 to 4 weeks. The petrol and diesel hard top options of Thar 4WD too have a 3 to 4 weeks waiting period. The 2WD/RWD Thar petrol has a waiting period of up to 3 to 5 weeks whereas the diesel 2WD/RWD Thar has a humongous waiting period of up to 72 to 74 weeks. The waiting period for Thar 4WD has reduced quite drastically because of the launch of 2WD Thar. According to reports and dealer insights, many customers have transferred their bookings from 4WD Thar to 2WD Thar. The 2WD Thar costs a lot less and gets all the positives of the Thar 4WD, excluding the 4x4 drivetrain. That's the reason for the gigantic fall in the waiting period of 4WD Thar.
Mahindra Thar: Powertrain & Drivetrain
The Thar 2WD petrol gets powered by the mStallion 2-litre turbo GDi engine generating 152 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The diesel 2WD Thar gets powered by a 1.5-Litre CRDe diesel engine generating 118 PS power and 300 Nm torque. It comes matted to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Moreover, the 4x4 Thar comes with either a 2-litre turbo GDi petrol engine or a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Both, the petrol 4WD and diesel 4WD get the option for a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic.
