Mahindra Thar 5 Door Launching In Second Half Of 2024
The Thar 5-door variant, which has undergone extensive testing across diverse locations in the country for over a year, is expected to enter series production around June this year.
The manufacturing of the Thar 5-door will take place on the same production line as its 3-door counterpart. Despite the considerable demand and backlog for the 3-door variant, sources indicate that the production of the 5-door version won't adversely impact the existing manufacturing processes. There are speculations that the 5-door variant might adopt the Thar Armada moniker upon its official launch, with an estimated production target of about 4,000 units per month.

Expected Features
The upcoming Thar 5-door variant is anticipated to feature substantial upgrades compared to its 3-door counterpart, as indicated by recent spy shots capturing the SUV in advanced stages of production. Notable exterior changes include a distinct front bumper and grille, mild tweaks to the rear bumpers, reprofiled tail-lamps, and a potentially new alloy wheel design, with variations depending on the chosen variant.
Internally, the Thar 5-door is expected to adopt the same 10.25-inch touchscreen display recently introduced in the updated XUV400. To accommodate the larger infotainment screen, the dashboard design has undergone subtle modifications. The unit boasts enhanced interface and graphics and is slated to appear in the upcoming XUV300 facelift preceding the Thar 5-door's launch. While the switchgear appears consistent with the current Thar, the steering wheel resembles that of the XUV700. Spy shots reveal the inclusion of armrests for both front and rear passengers, complete with dedicated grab handles for the second row. Additionally, higher variants of the Thar 5-door are expected to come equipped with a sunroof.
Powertrain
The much-anticipated 5-door Mahindra Thar is set to maintain consistency with its three-door counterpart by retaining the same engine options. It is anticipated to continue featuring the 2.0-liter mStallion turbo petrol unit and the 2.2-liter mHawk diesel unit, with potential tuning variations compared to the 3-door Thar model. Both engines are expected to be paired with a 4x4 drivetrain, incorporating a standard low-range transfer case.
