August 15 has been a ritual date for Mahindra and Mahindra where each year, they put something new forward for the world to see. Mahindra Thar came on that day and so did the XUV700, and the Scorpio N. Also, we told you about a pick-up-based concept on the Scorpio N coming your way on August 15th this year, but that's not all. What about an Electric Mahindra Thar? Yes! Thar Electric SUV concept is another unveil coming your way on the said date.
Let's look at what it will be like when revealed to the world.
Mahindra Thar EV Concept: Features That Stand-Out
While speculations were about the 5-door Thar's unveil at the South Africa event, the same was brushed aside by the brand. But what comes out now is that a Thar EV is what's making its way to the event. And the probable features list is going to interest you even more.
The Thar concept EV will stand out with its off-road character, boasting a probable 4X4 quad-motor setup. This is in contrast to the dual-motor system that is generally the case. On top of this, crab steer capability, enables all four wheels to turn nearly 45 degrees, facilitating sideways movement for effortless tight parking is on the cards. Furthermore, this setup helps in performing a 360-degree tank turn as well. This innovative combination promises good off-road performance and convenient urban maneuverability, making it an exciting prospect for adventure enthusiasts and city drivers alike.

What About The Platform?
Any details about the platform are still under wraps. It is not clear if it will continue with ladder-on-frame chassis like the ICE variant, or go with the new EV platform currently under development. Another option is a monocoque unit, which would be a first from Mahindra if they decide to go for this. Monocoque helps in reducing the weight of the vehicle, simultaneously adding to its driving range. On the flip side, the ladder-on-frame increases the load-carrying and towing capacity, which are yet another essential in an off-road centric SUV.
The picture will be clear at its unveil where we all get a glimpse of the vehicle.
Launch Timeline
Since this is a concept unveiling at the moment, the road to a production-ready model needs a lot of practical adjustments. You can expect its inception sometime in 2025. Matching the powertrain to deliver Thar-level performance and also a good enough long range will be the major tasks that Mahindra is looking to nail.
Verdict
While Mahindra keeps up with the tradition, Thar EV is attracting a lot of attention. This is natural as the ICE model is a pretty efficient off-roader with impressive power performance. What is left to be seen is that what platform exactly Mahindra will be using that will set its roadmap for future. Need more updates like these?
