- The variant is now priced at Rs 11.49 lakh
- The new price increase has not affected any other variants
A few months ago, Mahindra introduced the Thar in a rear-wheel drive configuration. Both a 1.5-liter diesel and a 2.0-liter petrol engine are included with the Thar RWD model. The 1.5-liter diesel engine variant was introduced to make the Thar more accessible. The 1.5-liter diesel RWD variant has experienced tremendous demand and is approximately Rs 4 lakh less expensive than the 4WD option. After only a few months since its initial release, the company has raised the price of the 1.5-liter RWD model's LX HT MT diesel option by Rs 50,000. This version is now offered for Rs. 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

A 1.5-liter CRDe diesel engine producing 117 ps and 300 Nm torque powers the 2WD diesel Thar. It is coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission is included with it.

Verdict: The Thar RWD diesel variants boast a long waiting period which can last up to 18 months. This is all due to the cost benefit over the 4WD variant and not everyone needs a 4WD vehicle. The features on the RWD variant are almost similar. The price hike might be a turn off for some potential customers.
