Maruti Suzuki Indian Limited (MSIL) showcased the eVX electric concept SUV at the 2023 Auto Expo. In a recent development pertaining to the brand's electrification plan, it has come to light that a total of 6 new electric vehicles are in the works for the Indian market. The first model is slated for a market launch in 2024. What is this latest buzz around Maruti Suzuki Six new EVs launch by 2030, Let's find out.

Maruti Suzuki Six New EVs Launch by 2030: Details

As per the latest document released by Suzuki Motor Corporation which highlights the company's growth strategy for FY2030, the aim is to achieve carbon neutrality in India by 2030. The document reads " In India, we will introduce the SUV battery EV announced at the Auto Expo 2023 in FY2024, with 6 models to be launched by FY2030. To provide a full range of products and services, Suzuki will provide not only battery EVs but also carbon-neutral internal combustion engine vehicles that use CNG, biogas, and ethanol mixed fuels". This means that Maruti will not only launch EVs but also rely on a host of other fuel options like CNG, biogas and ethanol blend fuel options. The targeted powertrain ratio in India will stand at 60% for ICE, 25% HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and 15% BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle).

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the first fully electric vehicle to debut in the Indian market will be the eVX concept SUV showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, followed by the remaining 5 EVs which will launch in a phased manner by 2030. Talking about the vehicles, the new range will consist of SUVs, hatchbacks, crossovers etc. and most of the vehicles will be positioned in the affordable mass market segment, in line with the brand's current portfolio. Details about the models are still scarce, however, we believe that WagonR EV and Fronx EV are two EVs which are on the cards, based on the design renders in the document.

Verdict: Maruti Suzuki will start its EV journey in India in the year 2024 with the launch of the eVX concept electric SUV. By then, Tata Motors and Mahindra will already have a lot of products in their line-up, however, the Indo-Japanese carmaker will play in the affordable mass market segment, which in turn will give it a clear advantage over the well-established EV players.
