Chip and semi-conductor shortages are affecting the worldwide automotive sector, and carmakers are facing this issue for a long time. Carmakers are temporarily removing certain non-essential features from their vehicles as an alternative to tackle the parts shortage. The newest car manufacturer to do so is MG Motor, which has temporarily discontinued certain MG Hector features from selected trim levels. This is done to assure on-time car delivery rather than stopping them while waiting for parts to arrive.

The subwoofer, amplifier, and auto tailgate swipe sensor have been removed from several Hector and Hector Plus models by MG. In Sharp and Smart trim, the Hector and Hector Plus six-seater come with a subwoofer and amplifier. Customers who have booked certain trims will be impacted, and they will not be able to use this function. Smart and Select variants of the Hector Plus seven-seater include a subwoofer and amplifier.
The Hector Plus six-seater Sharp variant no longer features the auto tailgate swipe sensor. In the Sharp version of the standard Hector, MG also provides automatic tailgate opening. If your hands are full of things and you can't reach the boot lid opener, automatic tailgate opening is a great function to have.
The customer can have these features enabled in their vehicle at the dealership once the components are back in stock. However, no information on when the parts will be back in stock or how long customers will have to wait for these features to be installed in their Hector or Hector Plus.
