Upcoming MG Cars In India
MG Gloster Facelift
The Gloster facelift is expected to be among the first few cars to be shown at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo. This update on the Gloster is likely to focus on cosmetic and interior updates, while likely retaining the same set of diesel powertrains; a 2.0-litre turbo, and another 2.0-litre twin-turbo unit, both paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
MG Astor Facelift
The Astor is another compact SUV that has been around for quite a while, and while it has been given a revamp in international markets, MG Motor India is yet to give us the updated version of this car.
The international-spec Astor is known as the ZS, and it gets a whole set of important updates. On the outside, it gets a fresh new face with a large new grille and connected headlamps via a full-length strip. The profile has not been changed drastically, and it will likely receive new alloy rims for India as well. It also gets a new tailgate, new tail lights, and the rear license plate has now been moved to the tailgate as well.
The interiors of the updated Astor have been revamped as well, featuring a different layout, a new 12.3-inch infotainment touch screen supporting wireless connectivity, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, redesigned A/C vents, and a new gear lever. The set of features include a 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, and ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking among other things.
Under the hood, the new Astor gets a 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain, with a combined 194bhp and 465Nm of torque, and it could be offered alongside the existing two powertrains; the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol and he 1.5-litre nat-asp petrol unit.
MG HS PHEV
The HS PHEV was unveiled earlier this year, and it is expected to make its India debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo. If launched, the HS could also be among the cars to be sold via the carmaker's premium MG Select outlets.
The HS PHEV will come with a hybrid powertrain; a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired to a 24.7kWh battery pack. The plug-in hybrid takes a claimed time of 4 hours for a full charge via a 7kW fast charging setup, although we expect that to change in the Indian context.
The HS PHEV gets a face inspired by the new Astor also expected here, and it will slot between the Hector and the Gloster, effectively making it a rival to the Hyundai Tucson.
Verdict
MG Motor India is set to make things rather interesting, with the new set of cars headed our way. There will also be some cars from its global lineup which could be headed here a while later.
