The Chinese-owned British-originated carmaker Morris Garages entered the Indian market in 2019 with its Hector SUV and tasted instant success. The MG Hector gained high popularity in the Indian market, thanks to its unique design language, good powertrains, feature-loaded cabin and attractive price & after-sales package. After the Hector, MG launched the ZS EV which also got good response and now the company is gearing up to launch its third offering in India. The third product from the company is a seven-seater version of the Hector SUV called the Hector Plus. MG Motors showcased this seven-seater SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. And, now the new 2020 MG Hector Plus is all set to launch in India next month.
Recently, MG Motors confirmed via a tweet-reply that the seven-seater SUV will hit the Indian showrooms in July 2020. Earlier, the Hector Plus was about to be launched in April this year. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the prolonged nationwide lockdown, the launch has been delayed and is now scheduled to be launched in July 2020.
The upcoming MG Hector Plus is a seven-seater version of the standard SUV and will share powertrain and features with the regular five-seater SUV. The Hector Plus will be initially offered as a six-seater that will have two captain seats in the middle row and the seven-seater version that will have a bench seat in the middle row will follow later this year.
The new 2020 MG Hector Plus is longer by 40 mm than the regular five-seater SUV while its other dimensions remain unchanged. It measures 4695 mm in length, 1760 mm in width and 1835 mm in height. It sits on a 2750 mm long wheelbase and the ground clearance stands at 192 mm. The boot space of the Hector Plus hasn't been revealed yet but we are sure it will offer a massive luggage space and the SUV will run on 17-inch wheels.

Talking about features, the Hector Plus will borrow features from the five-seater Hector which means it will get a massive panoramic sunroof, a huge vertically-oriented 10.4-inch touchscreen with next-gen i-SMART connected car technology, voice recognition and many more. This touchscreen system will be compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and will also get an in-built sim-card for connected car features. The SUV will get plenty of safety features too including up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, all-wheel disc brakes, 360-degree parking camera, etc.
Powering the new Hector Plus will be the same engines that also power the Hector SUV. It will be powered by a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre BS6-compliant diesel engine that will churn out 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The oil-burner is initially expected to come mated to only a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, the carmaker will soon launch a diesel-automatic too that will get a dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The diesel automatic version of the five-seater Hector will also be launched soon.
The other mill is a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will churn out 143 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It will also get 48-volt mild-hybrid variant just like the regular Hector that pumps out identical power & torque figures but will come mated to both a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This Hybrid version of the Hector Plus will also pack in additional functions like E-boost (torque boost of 20 Nm when required), engine start-stop and regenerative braking too.
The 2020 MG Hector Plus will be launched in India in July 2020 and is expected to be priced between Rs. 14 lakhs Rs. 20 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. At this price point, it will compete with other seven-seater SUVs and MPVs like the Toyota Innova Crysta, Mahindra XUV 500 and the upcoming Tata Gravitas.
