Hatchbacks
Maruti S-Cross Petrol
Engine - 1.5L SHVS
Power - 103 bhp and 138 Nm
Before you say, this is, after all, a LARGE hatchback on steroids, right? After the launch of Vitara Brezza with 1.5L petrol, it was the turn of S-Cross to discontinue the 1.3L diesel. The new petrol unit is seen on the XL6, Ciaz and Ertgia. It produces 103 bhp with a peak torque of 138 Nm. It also gets a mild-hybrid system and the upcoming S-Cross is expected to come with this technology. It helps in improving fuel efficiency.
Honda Jazz
Engine - 1.2L Petrol and 1.5L Diesel
Power - 89 bhp and 110 Nm / 99 bhp and 200 Nm
Honda Jazz will be launched in its facelifted avatar with mild exterior changes and will come with updated engines post lockdown. The new Jazz will get LED treatment on the headlights, taillights and the front and rear bumper will see a tweaked design. We expect that the engines will churn out the same output as before but the ARAI certified mileage is expected to change.
Renault Triber AMT
Engine - 1.0L Petrol
Power - 71 bhp and 96 Nm
After Kwid, the Triber pulls out well in terms of sale for the French carmaker. The popularity due to its small size yet an affordable option to seat 7 people inside is its USP. It comes with a 1.0L petrol which sometimes seems underpowered as it delivers only 71 bhp. And the engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The popularity of automatics on small segment cars is such that Renault will introduce an AMT gearbox post lockdown. The prices will see a hike of Rs 40,000 to Rs 55,000 for some trims. Currently, Renault Triber is priced at Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 6.82 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
Honda WR-V
Engine - 1.2L Petrol and 1.5L Diesel
Power - 89 bhp (P), 99 bhp (D)
Honda's WR-V is a real success when it comes to sales. Due to its quirky design, loads of buyers get attracted towards it and the n number of features at a marginal price. Honda will upgrade its styling and will add a slight bit of changes to the interiors. Also, the engines will be upgraded to new BS6 emission norms.
Sedans
2020 Honda City
Engine - 1.5L Petrol, 1.5L Diesel
Power - 117 bhp and 145 Nm, 99 bhp and 200 Nm
The City has always been a favourite due to its design and comfort features it has to offer. However, with the competition rising, the sedan was feeling behind its time and now post lockdown, Honda will introduce a brand-new City to the country. It gets new engines, features and an overhaul new design.

Some reports also suggest that it is expected to get a mild-hybrid system for the 1.5L petrol which in turn will increase fuel economy. Also, the 1.5L diesel might get a CVT gearbox. Some features on the 2020 Honda City includes Lane watch camera, TPMS, G-meter, new touchscreen with Alexa remote.
Skoda Rapid
Engine - 1.0L TSI Petrol
Power - 110 bhp
Showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, the Rapid will ditch the diesel and old 1.6L petrol motor for a newer 1.0L turbo petrol engine. It churns as much as 110 bhp under the hood. This same engine is used by its sister brand, Volkswagen, in the new Polo.
Hyundai Elantra (Diesel)
Engine - 1.5L Diesel
Power - 115 bhp and 250 Nm
Hyundai Elantra was only sold in a 2.0L petrol motor when it was launched with a facelift back in 2019. Now, as the demand for diesel persists, the carmaker has decided to bring the 1.5L Diesel which does the duty on Creta and Verna. It produces 115 bhp with 250 Nm and is available with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter unit. Earlier, the diesel on the Elantra was a 1.6L unit that produced 126 bhp and 260 Nm of torque.
SUVs
Tata Gravitas
Engine - 2.0L Diesel
Power - 170 bhp and 350 Nm
Also known as the extended version of the Harrier, the Gravitas from Tata Motors was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The big butch SUV now gets an increased length of 40 mm to accomodate the last row passengers. The height of the SUV also sees a significant increase. Feature-wise it will continue to come with a larger panoramic sunroof, 6-speed automatic, drive modes and among others.
Force Gurkha
Engine - 2.2L Diesel (expected)
Power - 90 bhp (expected)
The main attraction from Force Motors at this 2020 Auto Expo was the all-new Gurkha. It sure does like its predecessor but that's it. Force Gurkha now sits on a new platform, gets new features and also new design language. It will rival Mahindra Thar when it's launched and is expected to sit at a price of Rs 11 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
MG Hector Plus
Engine - 1.5L Petrol and 2.0L Diesel
Power - 141 bhp and 250 Nm, 168 bhp and 350 Nm
The Hector Plus is based on the Hector but now gets a 6-seating configuration as opposed to the regular 5-seater. It will come with revised exterior changes and the interiors will more or less remain the same. Also, the engines will remain the same but we do expect to see an automatic transmission with the diesel engine. The launch of the MG Hector Plus will happen in June this year.
Mahindra Thar
Engine - 2.0L Diesel (Expected)
Power - 140 bhp (Expected)
Mahindra is all set to introduce the new Thar into the Indian market. It gets an all-new platform, updated styling and completely new features. The Indian carmaker will offer the Thar in both soft and hard rooftop options and the SUV will come with new creature comfort features which include an automatic climate control unit, power windows, all-four disc brakes, new MID display and more.
Furthermore, the rugged SUV will also carry basic safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, high-speed alert system, front seat belt reminders, rear parking sensors are some from the list.
Mahindra Scorpio BS6
Engine - 2.2L Diesel
Power - 140 bhp and 320 Nm
Sure, the Indian carmaker is working on a new generation of the Scorpio but that will take time. So until that gets launched, the carmaker will upgrade the current Scorpio to BS6 emission norms. This unit churns out 140 bhp with 320 Nm of torque and gets a 6-speed manual gearbox. The prices for the BS6 Scorpio will be announced shortly.
Mahindra XUV500
Engine - 2.2L Diesel
Power - 153 bhp and 360 Nm
Looks like it's party time for Mahindra & Mahindra as several of its cars are either getting a facelift or new updates post this lockdown. Several spy shots of the next-gen XUV500 has been spied on the internet but there's still some time left on the launch. So Mahindra will only upgrade the 2.2L diesel unit of XUV500 to BS6 emission norms. The power figures are expected to remain the same but the ARAI certified fuel efficiency can see some change.
Hyundai Tucson
Engine - 2.0L Petrol and 2.0L Diesel
Power - 150 bhp and 182 bhp
Shown at the 2020 Auto Expo, the facelifted Hyundai Tucson comes with the updated design and features on the inside. Under the hood, it gets BS6 compliant 2.0L Petrol and Diesel engines. Also, the 6-speed auto in the diesel gets replaced by an 8-speed automatic unit.
