- MG confirms that there will be no diesel automatic offered with the Hector
- It gets a 2.0L FCA-sourced diesel engine
- MG Hector will continue with 1.5L petrol and 1.5L petrol hybrid motor as well
MG Motor India is all geared up for the launch of their facelifted SUVs, Hector and Hector Plus. While the launch of the former SUV is confirmed for this year, we can expect the 6 and 7-seater version SUV will be launched later on. What's also confirmed is that there will not be an automatic transmission with the diesel engine.
Yes, the 2.0L FCA-sourced motor will continue with a 6-speed stick shift like before. This engine churns out 169 bhp of power with a peak torque of 350 Nm. The ARAI-certified mileage sticks to 17.4 kmpl. This is the same motor as seen in the Tata Harrier, Safari and Jeep Compass.
This SUV will continue with the 1.5L petrol and 1.5L hybrid petrol as well. It generates a peak power and torque of 141 bhp and 250 Nm, respectively. The ARAI-certified mileage sticks to 14.1 kmpl and 15.8 kmpl, respectively. A 6-speed manual transmission is offered as standard while DCT and CVT are observed as an option with the 1.5L petrol.

Sharing the changes on the MG Hector then on the outside, it now gets revamped front profile. An aggressive U-shaped chrome studded grille that joins with the LED daytime running lights, sporty faux skid plate, reworked tweaked fog light housing and more. The silhouette of the SUV will remain more or less the same but we can expect new alloy wheels design for the side profile and also a tweaked rear profile.
Feature-wise, the upcoming SUV now gets a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is the largest in the segment. It will support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include 7.0-inch fully digital instrument cluster, an electronic parking brake, push button start/stop and more.

Safety too will be a priority in the Hector facelift and we expect it to be equipped with Level 2 ADAS just like what we've seen in the Astor. Features like landed departure warning, lane assist system, lane departure provision, adaptive cruise control and more are expected to be seen in the Hector facelift.
Verdict
With the competition rising (Mahindra XUV700, Scorpio N, Tata Harrier), all of which are offered with a diesel automatic as an option, this might be a drawback for MG Motor India. The lack of a diesel automatic can push potential customers to move towards the other options.
