The first platform, tailored for versatility and global reach, was not specifically named for its destination in India but was described by Bruno Vanel, VP of Brand and Product Performance, as "a fully new Renault group modular platform" set to be utilized in four hubs outside Europe. This platform will initially debut in Latin America and subsequently make its way to Turkey, Morocco, and India. Vanel highlighted its adaptability, accommodating vehicles with lengths between 4-5 meters and offering four potential wheelbases spanning from 2.6 to 3 meters. Additionally, it can support a wide array of powertrains, encompassing ICE (petrol and diesel), flex-fuel, LPG, 48V hybrid, and full-hybrid options, with provisions for both two- and four-wheel-drive configurations.
The second platform, known as the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), will be localized in South Korea through a partnership with Geely and will be instrumental in the development of D- and E-segment vehicles. Renault also took the opportunity to showcase two vehicles based on the new flexible platform: the Niagara Concept pickup and the Kardian SUV.
New Renault Duster By 2025
If the reports are to be believed, the new Duster or the Dacia Duster is all set for a global debut on November 29, 2023, in Portugal. The India-bound Duster will make its way sometime in 2025 as reported earlier. While the Duster moniker had its iconic position in the market, it was discontinued a few years back. The forthcoming Duster will offer a choice of three petrol engines. They include a 120hp 1.0-liter turbo-petrol, a 140hp 1.2-liter petrol hybrid, and a potent 170hp 1.3-liter turbo-petrol, which is flex-fuel compatible in higher trim levels. This 170hp engine marks the most powerful Duster to date. However, the engine options for the Indian variant are still not clear. The answer to whether we will get all three 3 options, or whether there will be any omissions still lies in the future.
Verdict
Renault's introduction of a new, versatile platform signals a significant move to bolster its presence in international automotive landscape. With a focus on adaptability and accommodating various powertrains, this platform will allow the brand to address the diverse needs of Indian consumers. The expansion of their portfolio is likely to enhance Renault's competitiveness in the global markets and contribute to their growth strategy beyond European borders.
