Royal Enfield Classic 650: What We Know So Far
Recently, a document was leaked online from RE's internal investor meeting. The document shows an upcoming lineup of the proposed models. However, being a proposal document a lot of models remain speculations only. But, a silhouette of the Classic platform has grabbed our attention in it. This platform is based on the Classic 350 but it will use a different chassis and engine. RE is working on fitting the 650cc powerplant on it. The silhouette itself looks more or less the same as the current Classic model.
Meanwhile, there will also be other models to be added to the 650cc lineup. We've recently spied the Scrambler 650 in Chennai on a test run. Additionally, the Super Meteor 650 is scheduled for India launch next month. However, the Classic 650 is still somewhere inside the R&D center. We suspect it will feature a rather relaxed riding style. As the current Classic is loved for its retro aspect; the bigger Classic shall keep the baton upfront.
However, its design is still unknown but we suspect the use of high-tech features on it. It has lately become a mandate to find the latest features on RE bikes. We hope that the bigger Classic will have a semi-digital instrument console, LED lights, and a plethora of optional accessories. RE shall keep its overall appeal tilted more toward retro lovers. Mechanically, we suspect it shall feature the same engine with revised gear ratios & ECU. Additionally, it might feature options for alloy wheels along with spoke rims.
Verdict
Royal Enfield will be introducing a number of models in the upcoming years. It is also going to enter the EV market by 2025. Meanwhile, the launch of Classic 650 shall not happen anytime sooner before 2024. It is because of other priority launches like the Scram 650 & the Himalayan 450. If launched sometime in near future, the Classic 650 will be priced above Rs 3 lakh.
