Skoda has started taking the bookings for the upcoming Rapid and Karoq at a minimum amount of Rs 50,000. Both the cars were shown at the 2020 Auto Expo and will be only available in a sole petrol engine when they're launched in the Indian market.
The bookings of the Skoda Rapid and Karoq are opened for the 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine only. Sharing more details on the Rapid then the sedan is expected to launch in mid-April and deliveries for the same starting in May.
It'll pack a 1.0-litre BS6 compliant turbo petrol engine, the same as seen on the Polo and Vento. This unit produces 110 bhp on tap with a peak torque of 175 Nm. The engine will be mated to a manual gearbox and an optional DSG transmission just like the Vento.

Commenting on the occasion, Zac Hollis, director, sales, service and marketing, Skoda Auto India said,⬓ The state-of-the-art 1.0 TSI petrol engine, to be introduced with the Ŧnbsp;koda Rapid, is central to our BS6 powertrain and fuel strategy ⬜ offering an exceptional power output as well as excellent fuel economy.⬝
Now, coming to the new entrant, Karoq which looks like a baby Kodiaq, it is expected to start deliveries from May. The mid-size SUV is brought in via CBU route and will utilise the 2,500 import rule without the need of homologation.
It'll carry a 1,5-litre turbo petrol motor which produces 150 bhp along with a maximum torque of 250 Nm. Skoda will bring the FWD (front-wheel drive) option in the Indian market and 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in just 9 seconds. Transmission wise, it gets a 7-speed DSG gearbox and a claimed top speed of 202 km/h.

Skoda Karoq will carry several features like Virtual cockpit, panoramic sunroof, full LED headlamps, larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets nine-airbags as safety features and is expected to carry a 360-degree camera.
The prices for the same are not announced but we expect it to see an upwards of Rs 18 lakh and will compete with the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Honda CR-V.
