Hyundai has been pretty dominating in the small sedan segment with the Verna. Does the Slavia have the potential to give a solid competition to the bestseller? Here is a detailed Skoda Slavia vs Hyundai Verna comparison.
The Hyundai Verna is one of the top-selling small sedans which speaks volumes about a car in a price-sensitive and picky market like India. Not only is Verna ahead in the sales curve, but it is also quite the looker in the segment. It gets the benefit of three engines and four-transmission options, alongside a plethora of features. This makes the Verna, a diverse and practical option.
On the other hand, the yet-to-be-launched Skoda Slavia will replace the Rapid. It will feature an all-new design and will be bigger in dimension than the model it replaces. However, unlike the Verna, the Slavia will not be available with a diesel engine option. It will get a DSG automatic option though, which should make matters exciting.
The difference between these two sedans might be neck-to-neck, but who gets the edge? Lets find that out in our detailed Skoda Slavia vs Hyundai Verna comparison.
Skoda Slavia vs Hyundai Verna: Design and Dimensions
The Skoda Slavia is based on Volkswagens new MQB A0-IN platform that is shared with Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. This new platform is stiffer and much safer. Whatever, we could gather from the sketches, the Slavia gets a similarly coupe-styled silhouette like the Hyundai Verna, but the former is dimensionally bigger. The grilles up front boast of a new hexagonal design, flanked by LED projector headlamps and L-shaped DRLs. The rear taillights now boast of new C-shaped design, that extends into the boot lid. From the side, the Slavias high shoulder line coupled with sloped down body lines gives it a posh and executive outlook.
On the other hand, the third-generation Hyundai Verna has been at its sharpest and most appealing state. The notchback style does feel short and taller than the Slavias. But the faux-vent on both the front and rear fenders, makes it look sportier. The front bonnet is smaller and has a more aggressive slope, compared to the Slavias. On the side, the new aluminium-alloy design available with the SX(Opt) Turbo petrol variant, stands out in this segment. Another eye-catching feature of the Hyundai Verna is the amount of chrome used, which distinguishes it from its previous iterations. This makes it look more glossy, compared to the classy-looking Slavia.

Summary: The Hyundai Verna might be smaller in dimension than the Slavia. But its exterior design is on par with the Slavia, especially when it comes down to its posh appeal.

Skoda Slavia vs Hyundai Verna: Features
Skoda has not released the full features list of the Slavia, yet. However, since the Slavia will replace the Rapid with a steeper price tag, we can expect it to be loaded with features. Although Skoda has assured that there will be several driving assistance features onboard, alongside 6-airbags, the latter should be a good assurance for safety. Watch out for this space, because the Slavia is bound to be loaded with several features.
On the other hand, the Hyundai Verna is quite feature-rich in this segment. For starters, it comes with BlueLink connected car technology that connects with your phone, a semi-digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, and wireless charging, to name a few standout features. Top models, further, get the benefit of hands-free boot opening, and a sunroof option. Besides, the tyre pressure monitoring system and front parking sensors make living with the Verna on a daily basis an easy affair.

Skoda Slavia vs Hyundai Verna: Price
Official prices for the Skoda Slavia has not to been fixed yet. But as we mentioned before, since the Slavia will replace the Rapid and it will have more features, we expect the Slavia to be a bit pricier. Once Skoda officially launches it on 18th November, we expect that the prices to range from Rs. 9.50 lakh to Rs. 16 lakh.
On the other hand, the Hyundai Vern is available in four trims: E, S+ SX, and SX(O). Prices start from Rs. 9.28 lakh (ex-showroom price, Delhi) with the base E models; and goes all the way up to Rs. 15.32 lakhs with the SX (O) diesel variant with the automatic transmission.
Verdict
The Skoda Slavia has not been launched yet. To arrive at a conclusion based on specs from paper would be unfair, especially when comparing it with the Hyundai Verna. The Korean automaker has been ruling the small sedan segment, and the Verna has been a popular offering for quite some time now. The Slavia has the potential to topple the Verna from its throne. If Skoda manages to solve the problem of EPC and sudden loss of power that customers have faced with the new Kushaq - with which the Slavia shares a lot of features. Then this small sedan can be a proper reckoner in this segment.
