Tata Altroz Bags Five-Star Ratings At The Global NCAP

Tata Motors upcoming premium hatchback, Altroz secured a five-star rating at the Global NCAP results. The car is scheduled to launch on 22nd January and competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Toyota Glanza. This latest update makes it the safest hatchback in India. Do note, its elder sibling, the Nexon is the safest compact SUV with a similar crash test rating.

What's interesting is that the Global NCAP results came out before its official launch and the results can work out in favour of Tata Altroz. It is safer than the hot-selling Maruti Baleno. The premium hatchback will come in BS6 petrol and diesel engine which is again the first in the segment.

David Ward, CEO and President of Global NCAP said, The latest result in our #SaferCarsforIndia crash tests shows a strong signal that TATA is moving its fleet to 5-star levels of safety performance. We would like to encourage all other car manufacturers in India to follow TATAs example and bring affordable 5-star cars to Indian consumers.

He also added, The Indian governments minimum crash test standards are clearly helping to eliminate any new zero star cars from the market, and we will continue to work with them to ensure the push of regulatory requirements is complemented by the pull of consumer awareness, encouraging the demand for ever-higher levels of safety.

After the Nexon, Altroz is the second car from the Indian carmaker to get a 5-star rating. The car scored a total of 16.13 points out of 17 in adult occupancy protection. And it secured three stars for the child occupancy. A total of 29 points were achieved out of 49.

The robust structure and footwell area came out to be the strongest in the results. Tata Altroz uses ALFA architecture. A front offset crash and a side-impact crash were carried out which proved that the premium hatchback is safe for the driver's and front passenger head, neck and knees. A sufficient part of the chest area was also considered safe.

As said above, the safety of the child occupant turned out to be three-stars. With a 1.5-year-old and 3-year-old dummies, the former's protection was good while the backrest of the latter unlatched and its head was stuck with the interiors.
