Tata Motors launched the Altroz premium hatchback in India in January this year. The Altroz is the first premium hatchback from the house of this Bombay-based home-grown car manufacturer. Upon launch, the Altroz got naturally-aspirated petrol and a turbocharged diesel engine. Now, Tata is planning to soon launch a turbocharged petrol version of the Altroz. The upcoming Tata Altroz Turbo Petrol has been spied once again in India, this time without camouflage. Here are all the details about its launch and price.
As you can see in the above image, recently the upcoming Tata Altroz Turbo Petrol was spied. This time, the test mule was not wearing any camouflage and one can also see the iTurbo badge on the tailgate of the car. Currently, the Tata Altroz gets two BS6-compliant engine options in India. It gets a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged Revotorq diesel engine. This diesel motor churns out 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. The oil-burner comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Altroz also gets a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine.
This naturally-aspirated petrol motor of the Altroz churns out 86 PS of max. power and 113 Nm of peak torque. It also comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and there is no automatic transmission on offer. The diesel motor of the Altroz is impressive but its three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol motor feels a bit underwhelming, considering it is a premium hatch. So, the company will plonk in a turbocharged petrol engine in the Altroz to make it a better all-round package. The turbo petrol motor will only be offered in the top-spec trims of the Altroz. It will get a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, borrowed from the Nexon but in a different state of tune.

This turbo petrol motor will churn out 110 PS of power at 5500 RPM and 140 Nm of peak torque between 1500-5500 RPM. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The company will also introduce a 7-speed (DCT) dual-clutch transmission with the Altroz at a later point of time. The Altroz is a great car inside and out and there are no two ways about it. But, its underwhelming petrol engine was not appreciated by many people. The introduction of the turbo petrol motor will make it a really good package and will surely boost its sales too. Recently, the price of the turbo petrol variants of the Tata Altroz also leaked on the internet. Have a look:
Variant | Price (Ex-showroom Delhi) |
XT | Rs. 7.99 lakhs |
XT (O) | Rs. 8.19 lakhs |
XZ | Rs. 8.59 lakhs |
XZ (O) | Rs. 8.75 lakhs |
