Tata Motors has officially introduced the Punch EV, expanding its electric vehicle portfolio to include an SUV model alongside existing Tata EVs like the Tiago EV and Tigor EV. With a starting price of Rs 11 lakh, the Punch EV is available in five primary trims: Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+. For those interested in exploring the features of the Punch EV's base variant, the Smart trim, this report will provide a comprehensive overview.
While the front facia seems identical across trims, there are differentiating elements like the absence of connected DRLs, the exclusion of fog lamps, and the lack of sequential turn indicators, features found in the higher-spec variants.
The rear design remains largely unchanged, featuring LED tail lamps and the modified bumper carried over from the higher-end models. This will remind you of the ICE Punch with fairly similar taillamps.
Interior And Features
In the interior of the Smart variant, the absence of an infotainment system stands out, marking it as a base variant. The cabin adopts an all-black theme with contrasting white accents along the dashboard. Noteworthy features include fabric seat upholstery, touch-based climate controls, and manually adjustable ORVMs.
This variant comes with a semi-digital drivers display, automatic climate control, an air purifier, multi-mode regenerative braking, front power windows, drive modes, a height-adjustable drivers seat, and a cooled glove box. On the safety front, it incorporates ABS with EBD, six airbags, electronic stability control, a hill-hold assist, a tire pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.
Powertrain
The Smart variant exclusively features a smaller 25 kWh battery pack, providing a claimed range of 315 km. Equipped with a standard 3.3 kW AC charger, it requires approximately 9.5 hours for a full charge. The Long Range variant is available from the mid-spec Adventure variant onwards.
Price And Rivals
The Punch EV's Smart variant comes with a price tag of Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). It positions itself as a competitor against the Citroen eC3 and serves as an SUV alternative to other Tata electric models like the Tiago EV and Tigor EV.
Verdict
The Tata Punch EV opens more options for buyers looking for their next ride with electric powertrain. While it sits between the Tiago and Nexon EVs, it faces direct competition with the Citroen eC3.
