Tata Punch is a mini SUV in the market that rivals the likes of Maruti Ignis and Citroen C3. Some variants also target the buyers of Nissan Magnite as well as Renault Kiger. In this article, we share the pros and cons of Tata Punch and share if this mini SUV should be your next pick or not!
Pros
Good styling
Tata Punch packs in a distinct styling with SUVish looks. Since this segment is booming in the Indian market, Tata has played it right by bringing in a mini SUV that appeals to a larger audience. Be it the dual-tone colour scheme that is offered, body cladding all over or the split headlight design, Punch gets a modern design overall.
5-Star Safety
Tata Punch is the only car in the segment that got 5 stars at the Global NCAP crash test rating. Other than this, Punch is equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, a high-speed alert system, front seat belt reminder, reverse parking sensors and more. The AMT version of the Punch also gets a traction control system.

Loaded with features
Not only the Tata Punch carries a modern design but is also equipped with the latest features. It gets a larger touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, cruise control, push-button start/stop, tilt adjustment for the steering wheel, projector headlights, LED taillamps and more.
Cons
Lack of steering response
One of the things that we felt about the Tata Punch is that it lacks steering response. At city speeds, the steering feels light which is good but at highway speeds, it does not gives the driver the confidence that they might need. The same thing happens at sharper turns too.
No CNG
Nowadays, several carmakers are moving towards the CNG system as it is not only cleaner and less harmful to the environment but is cheaper as well. However, the lack of CNG in the Tata Punch might distance away some buyers from picking this mini SUV.

No turbo petrol motor
The Punch gets a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol motor. If you're looking for a car that takes you from point A to point B then it does the job, however, if you're looking to have some occasional fun and want to drive in a spirited manner then this motor is not for you. We wish Tata could have offered the 1.2L turbo petrol motor that we see in the Altroz i-Turbo.
Verdict
If you're looking for an SUV but on a budget then this might be the right pick for you. It offers decent space, modern design, safety and is loaded with features up to the brim. If you're looking for a power-packed performance SUV then you should refrain from putting your money on the Punch.
