Mahindra is getting ready to introduce the 4X2 version of its off-roader Thar. The Thar till now is only offered in 4X4 form. Additionally, the brand will alter the diesel powertrain for the 4X2 variant along with the drivetrain update. The only exterior alterations are the removal of the 4X4 and engine badging from the rear and front fenders, respectively. The lower-spec version will also come with the same 18-inch tyres, alloy wheels, and ground clearance. Therefore, the overall SUV look and posture will be kept.
The SUV's interior will contain the same features, but the 4X4 selector has been replaced with a cubby hole. The touchscreen infotainment system, controls on the steering wheel, climate control switches, and other interior amenities are identical to those on the 4X4 trim.

Mahindra Thar 4X2 - Engine & Drivetrain
The upcoming Thar 4X2 will include a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which is the biggest point of change. A 2.2-liter diesel engine powers the 4X4 Thar. Because it will be offered in RWD (rear-wheel drive) form, it will differ from the 4X4 variant in another significant way. The 1.5-liter engine would have a maximum torque of 300 Nm and 115 bhp of output. What's interesting is the torque output, which is the same for both engines. Additionally, the 2.0-liter mStallion turbo petrol engine is shared by the 4X4 and 4X2 variants.

Mahindra Thar 4X2 - Pricing & Launch
The new Thar 4X2 is anticipated to be more affordable thanks to the smaller engine and removal of the 4X4 transmission. Price predictions range from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), which is around Rs 3.5 lakh less than the 4X4 model. According to certain rumours, the launch will take place on January 26, 2022.
