1. Retained Mechanics

The Triumph Speed 400 MY25 is still driven by its robust 399cc liquid-cooled engine, generating 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 39 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. This single-cylinder powertrain is paired with a six-speed gearbox. Additionally, the bike is equipped with modern features like ride-by-wire throttle, full-LED lighting, dual-channel ABS, and a semi-digital instrument cluster.

2. More Upgrades

The Speed 400 now features significant upgrades, notably new Vredestein tires with thicker sidewalls, now sized at 110/80 R17 and 150/70 R17, which enhance its stance and slightly increase seat height and ground clearance. The seat also benefits from an additional 10mm of foam padding, with a revised profile to maintain ground reach. Additionally, the bike now includes adjustable brake and clutch levers as standard, enhancing rider convenience. All these cumulative adjustments have been made to enhance the riding experience.

3. Pricing

The MY25 Triumph Speed 400 is priced at Rs. 2.40 lakhs ex-showroom, which is a bit more expensive than the outgoing model which was priced at Rs. 2.34 lakhs ex-showroom. Also, this has been dethroned as the most affordable Triumph motorcycle in India by the cheaper Speed T4.

4. New Entry Level Variant: Speed T4 Launched

Speed T4

The new Triumph Speed T4 offers a more budget-friendly option compared to the Speed 400, sharing the same 398.15 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine but in a detuned form. It produces 31 PS at 7,000 rpm and 36 Nm at 5,000 rpm, which is 9 PS and 1.5 Nm less than the Speed 400. The Speed T4 features fresh graphics, including a 400 emblem on the tank and Speed T4 branding on the side panels. While it retains the same features as the Speed 400, the lower power output makes it lose the traction control system, also helping to reduce costs.

Verdict

Triumph has made its impact with the Speed 400 and the Scram 400 that were quick machines and made mass impact. Offering a worthy Royal Enfield rival while continuosly evolving will make greater impact in the space. The move to take the Speed 400 forward and simultaneously introduce a more affordable variant is expected to expedite the adoption within the biking space where it offers something for everyone. However, we would have to wait to se how the new T4 performs in terms of sales.
