Triumph Speed 400 vs Scrambler 400X - Design Difference
The most obvious difference is the design. The Speed 400 has been made for street and tarmac riding while the Scrambler is oriented for more off-road fun. Therefore, the design appeal of both models is also different. For example, the Speed 400 gets a slightly dedicated riding posture, the fuel tank graphic and colour theme is also different. Additionally, the seat design is different as the Speed gets a single seat while the Scrambler has a split seat. Meanwhile, the Scrambler gets a headlight protection guard, knuckle guards, & a raised handlebar. However, the Speed gets a more flat handlebar with bar end mirrors. Last, but not least, the exhaust design is also different as the Speed gets a brushed aluminium finish single exhaust while the Scrambler has a blacked-out twin-can exhaust. Also, the alloy wheel design is different on both models.
Hardware & Features Difference
As both bikes are meant for different purposes, the hardware also has differences. For example, the Speed 400 gets 17-inch alloy wheels with road-centric Metzeler Sportec M9RR tyres. Whereas, the Scrambler 400X gets a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear tyre with Metzeler Karoo tyres for a better off-road experience. Additionally, the front disc brake on the Speed 400 is 300mm while the Scrambler 400X gets a bigger 320mm front disc brake size. Moreover, the Speed 400 is lighter at 170 kg while the Scrambler is 179 kg in kerb weight. The seat height is also different as the Speed 400 gets a lower seat at 790mm while the Scrambler gets an 835mm seat height. And yes, the Scrambler comes with a switchable ABS so that you can have more off-road fun on it.
Colour Difference
Not a major difference but yes, the colour shades and the graphics on both variants are different. One can easily note down the reference to the Speed Twin 900 on the Speed 400. The sculpted fuel tank has a big & beautiful Triumph logo with multiple paint shade options. The colour options for Speed 400 are - Carnival Red, Caspian Blue, and Phantom Black. However, the Scrambler 400X has a reference to the Scrambler 900 and hence it comes in Matt Khaki Green and Fusion White, Carnival Red and Phantom Black, and Phantom Black and Silver colour options.
