Although the continuing EMPS Subsidy Amount offers some relief to customers, the disappointing end of the FAME subsidy scheme adds to the woes of EV buyers. Following this cutoff, the TVS iQube Electric Scooter has seen a price hike, with the base variant now priced at Rs 1,36,628 (ex-showroom Bengaluru) and the iQube S variant at Rs 1,46,420 (ex-showroom Bengaluru), inclusive of the EMPS Subsidy Amount.

However, there's a silver lining for some fortunate buyers. Upon visiting the website, it becomes apparent that certain states offer additional subsidies from their respective governments, on top of the EMPS Subsidy. These states include Delhi, Assam, Rajasthan, Punjab, and others. Unfortunately, not all states extend such additional assistance to their EV buyers.

Above: TVS iQube Electric Scooter

The iQube scooter is designed with three lithium-ion batteries, combining for a total power of 2.25kWh. Its propulsion comes from a robust 4.4kW hub-mounted BLDC motor, boasting an impressive torque of 140Nm. With a claimed range of 75 km, it's geared towards efficient travel. Acceleration is smooth and swift, taking just 4.2 seconds to reach 40kmph from a standstill. In Eco mode, it maintains 40kmph, while Sport mode pushes it to a top speed of 78kmph.

The TVS iQube finds itself in a competitive arena, facing off against other electric scooters such as the Bajaj Chetak, Hero Vida V1, Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, and the soon-to-be-launched Ather Rizta.

Verdict

The end of the FAME 2 subsidy marks a challenging time for EV buyers, with significant price hikes affecting affordability. However, additional state subsidies and the iQube's impressive performance features still make it a viable option in the competitive electric scooter market.
