Dimensions And Styling: Obvious And Subjective

In terms of dimensions, the BYD Seagull trumps the Tata Tiago EV in all respects. It is longer, taller, and even wider than the Tiago EV. However, the difference is not very significant, but since we are talking in concrete numbers, Seagull takes this one, on paper. In reality? Well, it may not be that evident. The BYD Seagull EV's dimensions are 3780 mm in length, 1715 mm in breadth, and 1540 mm in height, whereas the Tiago EV measures 3769 mm in length, 1677 mm in breadth, and 1536 mm in height.

Talking about styling,, this one is a subjective topic and a bit controversial. While the Seagull gets sharp and pointy elements, exuding a bit more of a sporty nature, Tiago continues with its typical subtle subdued exterior. While we think the Seagull will offer a fresh feel in the electric hatch space, the Tiago resonates more with the subtle and timeless design philosophy. What do you prefer? Interior And Features: Balanced Differences

Getting inside the cabin, you are greeted with a basic, yet accommodating feel with both options. While the Tata Tiago EV offers the same utilitarian dashboard layout that it has been offering for quite some time, you will find the Seagull's interior a bit more contemporary with a bigger central floating infotainment screen.

In terms of features on offer, both the hatchbacks are quite comparable and offer a host of features. The Tata Tiago EV offers features like USB-C fast charging, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, rear wiper and washer, connected features, automatic headlamps, electrically adjustable ORVMs, fully digital instrument cluster, TPMS, 6-airbags, and more.

Even-handed, the BYD Seagull too, offers a similar set for features, albeit with a few neat add-ons, and comprises features like USB-C fast charging, cruise control, auto hold, TPMS. keyless entry, wireless charger, connected car tech, automatic headlamps, air purifier, and more. In conclusion, both the vehicles are pretty well equipped with both offering a few features over the other one.

Specs And Range

Tata Tiago EV comes in 2 range options. Models with medium range are equipped with a 19.2 kWh battery, while long-range variants feature a larger 24 kWh battery, providing claimed ranges of 250 km and 315 km, respectively. For the long-range version, the electric motor delivers an instant torque of 114 Nm and a power output of 74.7 Ps. In the medium-range variant, the motor produces an instant torque of 110 Nm and a power of 61Ps.

This is where the BYD Seagull surpasses the Tiago EV by miles. The top-spec BYD Seagull Flying Edition claims a range of 405 km on a single charge. This is miles ahead( literally!) of the Tata Tiago EV's 315 km claimed range with the Long Range version. The electric motor paired with the Seagull puts out the same power of 75 Ps power but a higher peak torque of 135.5 Nm.

Price: In The Same Ballpark!

The Tata Tiago price starts at Rs. 7.99 lakhs whereas the upcoming BYD Seagull is expected to start at a similar price range of around Rs. 8 lakhs. While these 2 compete against each other, they also rub shoulders with other EVs like the MG Comet and more.
