Citroen Basalt Mid-Variant: What To Expect?
Although, only the rear shots are available of the test car; it surely gives us an idea of what to expect. The spotted test mule is either a base version or a mid-spec. The test car is missing essential features like LED taillights, a rear camera, a rear defogger, no chrome garnish on the bumper, and no alloy wheels as well. The partially visible side profile shows that it'll get the traditional handlebars like the C3.
On the inside, it is suspected to have an identical cabin design to the C3. However, slight changes like new garnish on the door panels, highlights on the center console, etc., could make it feel upmarket. In terms of features, the top-spec version will get a 10.2-inch infotainment console, a digital instrument cluster, auto AC, and more. However, the variant seen here will lack a bigger touchscreen, auto AC, and gloss black treatment on the inside.
The Basalt coupe SUV will be based on the C3's platform. This means that it'll use the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as on the C3. This engine will most likely be offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AT gearbox option. Upon launch, it'll rival the upcoming Tata Curvv SUV but the Curvv will be launched with a diesel engine while the Basalt will get a petrol-only powertrain. Its expected price would be Rs 12-15 lakh (ex-showroom). The launch timeline of Basalt is around the Diwali season of this year.

Verdict
Coupe SUV segment is currently unexplored in India. With Citroen and Tata taking risks to explore it, this new experiment can backlash if the products are not value-for-money. Hence, the variant segmentation needs to be done very carefully. The pricing would be another factor that will determine the success of Basalt in India.
