Renault Duster To Be Petrol Only; Hybrid Likely

The all-new Renault Duster and its Nissan twin are set to arrive in late 2025 with fresh looks and cutting-edge technology. Both SUVs will boast turbo-petrol engines, with a choice between a fuel-efficient 1.0-liter unit or a more powerful 1.3-liter option for those seeking extra zip. But any hopes for a diesel mill have been put to rest as these updated SUVs will be a petrol-only proposition. However, there is still a catch.

The punchier 1.3-litre turbo petrol puts out 156hp of power and was inducted with the last gen Renault Duster as well. This is the same engine that has powered the Mercedes Benz A-Class sedan. Meanwhile, the omission of diesel is likely to be countered by a petrol-hybrid mil that is in development and possibilities are being explored. However, there is no concrete information about this one other than just the talks.

Interior And Features

The 2025 Renault Duster delivers a driver-centric cabin design featuring a prominent 3-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and a Renault logo on the wheel. Functionality meets modern touches with a sizable infotainment screen, octagonal air vents with unique Y-shaped surrounds, and a dark color scheme for a premium feel. Matching its competitors, the Duster is expected to offer features like wireless charging, automatic climate control, ventilated seats, ADAS, and more.

Indian Launch And Rivals

The Renault Duster is prepped for a challenger role in the competitive SUV segment, targeting India in early 2025. To be produced locally at the Chennai plant, it aims to capture market share from established players like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, and other SUVs in the segment.

Verdict

Ditching diesel engine might surprise some in India's diesel-heavy SUV market. This move by Renault and Nissan likely reflects their global focus on petrol engines and aligns with the industry's shift towards cleaner technologies and electrification. However, hybrids are a hit with big vehicles in India like the Toyota Hycross, and if that is introduced, it could help fill up the void left by the diesel mill.
