MG introduced Astor as a feature-loaded car to attract more and more public. The car features premium leather layering in the interiors, auto ac with PM 2.5 filter, electronic power steering with three steering modes, rear defogger, keyless entry, and 10.1-inch infotainment system compatible with every smartphone device.
The compact SUV also offers front fog lamps with a cornering assist, electric parking brake with auto hold, personal AI assistant (segment-first), 7-inch digital cockpit, 17-inch alloy wheels, perforated leather seat upholstery, auto headlamps, rear-drive assist, RED brake callipers (front and rear), speed assist system, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera view, six-way power-adjustable seats, rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and the ADAS autonomous level 2 which is offered only in the top-end variant.
Some attractive best-in-class features that MG offered is the i-Smart hub. It enhances the in-cabin experience and offers 35+ Hinglish voice commands, weather forecast, digital key with bluetooth technology, in-built applications, interactive emojis including greetings and festival wishes, jokes, local and global news, ask anything: powered by wikipedia, and several other features.
Volkswagen Taigun, the first made-in-India locally produced car and also launched in the market. VW for the first time introduced segment-first features like infinity LED tail lights that run across seamlessly from one edge to another with an endless beam of light. The elevated bonnet design gives the car a bolder and muscular look equipped with a 3D signature chrome grille.
At front, the car comes with LED headlamp unit with integrated DRLs for better illumination, electric sunroof, trapezoidal chrome wings and the big updated VW logo on the grille gives the car a striking look.
Glancing inside the cabin, Taigun carries a classy, sporty, and premium ambience. The car comes with a dual tone premium interior, ambient lightning, leatherette seat upholstery, and a folding rear backrest with 60:40 ratio. For a sporty driving experience, VW has introduced paddle shifters.
Considering technology, Taigun with automatic trim features a 8-inch digital cockpit with an artistic, customizable user interface that allows switching between analog and digital themes.
The 10-inch infotainment cluster is compatible with wireless connectivity of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The instrument cluster has some pre-installed or default applications such as Syfic navigation which can be accessed without the internet also, Gaana, Booking.com, and audiobooks.
The new VW Taigun comes with a set of 6-speaker surround sound system, wireless charging for supported smartphones, and My VW Connect ensuring that the user is connected with the car even from far apart.
Taigun comes with a new flat-mode leather steering wheel with multiple functions available for instrument cluster, voice command, cruise control and digital cockpit. To kickstart everyday hustle, the car comes with a keyless entry.
To make the interior more classy and modern, VW introduced smart touch climatronic AC that works with just a touch. In its 1.0-litre variants, it also offers front ventilated seats. These were some extraordinary features inside out which VW is offering with its all-new Taigun.
MG Astor vs VW Taigun Comparison - Specifications
The MG Astor, the compact SUV has gone on sale in two engine variants - 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol that belts out a maximum of 110PS and 144 Nm. The other option on offer is that of a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol unit that outputs 140PS and 220 Nm. The less powerful of the two mills is available with a 6-speed manual and an 8-step CVT, while the turbo'ed unit is only on sale with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic.
On the other hand, VW offers two petrol engine options. 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI EVO engines are available. The 1.0-litre is capable of producing 115 PS of maximum power and 178 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5-litre produces 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of peak torque.

That was the engine specifications which both the carmakers offer. On comparing the engine specifications, we realised that VW Taiguns 1.0-litre engine is capable of producing more maximum power and torque than the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol petrol engine of MG Astor. The 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine can still be considered a bit powerful considering the power and torque figures.

The matter of concern is the price. If you are planning for a compact SUV under Rs 20 lakhs you should without getting confused should either go with MG Astor if features are your priority or VW Taigun if performance is your priority. VW Taigun starts at Rs 10.49 lakhs (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 17.49 lakhs (ex-showroom).On the other hand, MG Astor is also aggressively priced and cheaper than its rivals.
