Once restricted to only premium sedans and luxury SUVs, the feature of cruise control is now common to even compact SUVs and premium hatchbacks available in India. The cruise control comes in very handy during a long highway drive when you want to relieve your focus on accelerator and brake and maintain a constant speed at the same time. However, there can be various reasons behind the cruise control not working. Well, what can be these reasons? Read on to find it out.

The cruise control rarely stops working, but if it does, it is primarily due to malfunctioning of small components involved in it. Following are the faults which might lead to cruise control stop working:-
1. Faulty fuse The major function of the fuse is to preserve the electrical components of the cruise control system from possible short circuit. In case the fuse of the system turns faulty, the cruise control system will not operate until it is not rectified.
2. Faulty cruise control switch To start the operation of the cruise control, you need to press the cruise control switch, which is usually placed on the steering wheel itself. However, if the contact points in the same switch do wear out due to excessive use, the system will not turn on or will cancel the ongoing setup in case it happens while driving.

3. Glowing of check engine light The check engine light is one of the most serious warning lights present in the instrument console. And just for the matter of safety, the other electrical systems which are linked to the engine via the electronic control unit also stop working. One such system is the cruise control.
4. Faulty vehicle speed sensor The primary use of the vehicle speed sensor is to determine the speed at which the vehicle is moving and transmit this information to the electronic control unit, and also the cruise control. If this sensor stops working, information related to speed will not be transferred and thus, the cruise control will not work.

5. Faulty brake light switch While there is a separate cancel button for the cruise control system, usually people cancel the system through the alternate way by applying the brakes. However, the electronic control system indicates the cruise control whether the brakes are applied through the brake light switch. If this switch stops working, the brakes will continue to be applied, but neither the tail lamp nor the cruise control will work.
