Summers are already settling in and while it throttles to full power just in a matter of time, you can thank your cars for saving you from the hostilities of it. Hop inside and voila, air conditioning kills your woes and takes you from A to B. But do you know, that such extreme temperatures also come with their fair share of challenges for your cars as well? 1. Keep Monitoring Tyre Pressure To Avoid Bursts

Maintaining correct tyre pressure is essential for optimal vehicle performance, regardless of the season. Given that tyre pressure naturally fluctuates with temperature, summer's heat presents some unique challenges. High temperatures can cause tyre pressure to rise, potentially resulting in overinflation and increasing the risk of tyre bursts. Conversely, insufficient tire pressure can lead to decreased fuel efficiency, compromised handling, and a heightened risk of blowouts. Therefore, ensuring your tyres are properly inflated is a key factor in maximizing your vehicle's performance and efficiency throughout the summer months

2. Clean Or Replace The AC Filter

Summers call for the AC at full blasts, which is of much greater use when you have a packed car at full capacity. With a dusty and dirty filter, the overall performance of the air conditioning gets affected, and takes longer than usual to cool the cabin. Keep cleaning the filter at regular intervals and change when required. With the filter cost reasonable for most cars, a new filter might be the best option. Get cleaner air, more efficiently, and skip on expensive repairs with this simple task. Small but significant!

3. Park Under Shade- Avoid Glass Cracks And More

Due to extreme temperatures, when the car is parked under the sun for longer hours, there are chances for the windshield to develop cracks due to the pressure build-up inside the cabin. This trapped heat builds up the pressure inside and could damage the windscreen and widen the stone chips and already existing cracks. Not just this, prolonged exposure can lead to deterioration of interior materials, such as fading, cracking, and warping, as well as damage to the exterior paint. To mitigate these effects, consider parking in shaded areas or using a car cover. This not only safeguards the interior from damage but also prevents the steering wheel and seats from becoming excessively hot, which can make driving uncomfortable.

4. Wiper, Belts, And Other Rubber Components

Your windshield wipers suffer dearly with the changing temperatures, where the hot sun is one of its biggest enemies. It constantly gets heated during the day and then cools off at night. This temperature fluctuation makes the rubber more brittle and develops cracks that trap solid and other dust particles, making scratches on the screen when used. Keep a regular check on the wipers and replace them when needed. The same goes for the hoses and belts inside the engine bay which may deteriorate with extreme heat, requiring timely check-ups and replacements. Parking the car under shade would lead to lesser wear and tear, increasing its lifespan.

5. Keep Fluids In Check

0w20 and 5w30 oil

Higher temperatures can significantly accelerate engine oil degradation, particularly in vehicles with older, partially depleted oil. Regular monitoring of engine oil levels is crucial, with top-ups using the appropriate oil type as needed and mentioned in your owner's manual. Alternatively, consider switching to a higher-grade, heat-resistant oil designed to maintain viscosity and minimize wear if you reside in areas with hot temperatures. It's equally important to inspect the fluid levels of power steering, brake, and transmission systems, as these components are also vulnerable to heat-related stress.

Verdict

Summers are pretty harsh but your car shields you from it, but in return, you have to care for it as well to make sure it keeps on running with optimum health. Ignore the basics and you could land in some serious trouble that might demand big costs. Remember, the more you take care for your car, the more it takes care of you.
