Top Three Reasons Which Can Make Power Steering Wheel Hard To Turn - Details

Almost all the passenger cars of the 21st century do come with the feature of power steering as default, barring the most basic variant of the cheapest micro hatchbacks available on sale today. For proper functioning of power steering, there are multiple components which work together in order to facilitate the directional movement of steering. Today, in this article, we have listed for you the top three reasons which can make power steering wheel hard to turn.

As already mentioned before, all the cars produced nowadays do come with the feature of power steering as standard. Thus, any fault leading to difficult movement of steering can lead to accidental damages. However, there might come an occasional moment when the power steering will get jammed or will become too hard to move around. Following are the three main reasons behind the occurrence of such a phenomenon:

Low Level of Power Steering Fluid - This is the most common reason behind the occurrence of such a circumstance. Given that all the cars in the modern era are coming with power steering as a default fitment, there has to be power steering fluid, given that it is a hydraulically operated mechanism. The main function of the power steering fluid is to keep the components of the entire power steering system lubricated all the times. However, if there is a drop in the level of the fluid due to a possible leakage, or it gets thickened due to prolonged usage, the power steering tends to become heavy while driving at lower speeds. Each and every car's manual comes with the replacement schedule of power steering fluid mentioned in it.

Top Three Reasons Which Can Make Power Steering Wheel Hard To Turn

Faulty Pumping System - To ensure that the power steering fluid is regulated in the entire system in order to keep the components lubricated, a pump is required for creating the required pressure for maintaining the flow. This pump, when turned faulty, can jam the steering system prematurely, which can also jam the steering wheel at times. This pump can be rectified or replaced, depending upon the magnitude of the damage or wear and tear.

Broken Power Steering Belt - The left and right movement of the steering depends much on a belt which is used in the system. If this belt breaks, which usually happen due to prolonged wear and tear after loosening up, the steering wheel will become very hard to move left and right. And finally, it will get jammed completely. The only solution to make the steering work back in original condition is to replace the belt.
