Types of Tyres

Summer Tyres

As the name suggests, summer tires are engineered to provide the best grip on dry and wet roads, and that's because of the tread design, which remains intact with the road, providing excellent grip, stability, and handling. These are the most common tires used in India, as the temperature here remains hot in almost every state. Lastly, it is advisable not to use them in places where the temperature drops below 5 degrees, as the rubber will get hard and hamper its safety factor.

Winter Tyres

The biggest difference between summer and winter tires is that the tread design of winter tires features more natural rubber, which doesn't harden in areas where snow occurs, and the overall temperature remains below 6 to 7 degrees Celsius. As mentioned, summer tires shouldn't be used in colder areas, and the same applies to winter tires. Now, the reason they provide such excellent grip is snow because the design has deeper blocks that eat up the snow terrain. Also, they feature several rubber spikes that clear away any water from the path ahead.

All Season Tyres

A hybrid system, which works marginally better in wet conditions as per several manufacturers of tires, is the best option if you want to travel a lot to valleys or in plains throughout. The science behind it is unknown, but as per several researches, they last longer than any other tires and provide excellent fuel economy. Moreover, in several SUVs, this type is mostly added by manufacturers. Lastly, they are expensive to purchase, and that's why they also last long.

All Terrain Tyres

The ones that can take you almost anywhere are all-terrain tires. The tread design on them is aggressive, and just by one look at them, anybody can figure out that they are built for heavy 4X4 vehicles. Moreover, they have one big con, and that is noise. On highways, these can create a lot of noise, which can sometimes feel distracting. Moreover, people who buy them aren't driving the car on flat roads, so it's not an issue for them.

Run - Flat Tyres

This is the most expensive type of tires as they have special abilities. If the tires get punctured, or the air level drops significantly, they can still run up to a certain mileage and at a certain speed without damaging the alloy wheel or any mechanical component of the car. This happens because the sidewall is extremely thick/dense, allowing them to easily carry the weight of the car even if it gets punctured. Also, they cannot be repaired, but only replaced, and they are quite expensive. They come standard in luxury cars like BMW and Mercedes Benz.

Verdict

These are the most common type of tires available in the market, and the ones we see on our cars. Out of them, the best are all-season tires for their durability and ability to perform excellently in all conditions. However, they are on the expensive side, so this is something to keep in mind.
