The Adventure motorcycle scene in India is becoming increasingly popular, with many manufacturers entering the market. Classic Legends, known for its iconic Jawa and Yezdi Motorcycles, has joined the trend by introducing the Yezdi Adventure. Initially launched in 2022, the motorcycle received an update in 2023 to comply with the new BS 6 Phase 2 norms. This update brought several significant changes to the bike.

We had the chance to spend a few days with the updated Yezdi Adventure, covering a distance of 1,000 km, including participating in an Encamp ride organized by Jawa-Yezdi Motorcycles. In this long-term review, we'll delve into our experiences and insights gained from the 2023 Yezdi Adventure. What We Like?

  • Enhanced low-end performance post-update, with improved response to initial throttle compared to the pre-update version, which tended to stall at lower RPM
  • Well-controlled NVH levels ensure minimal vibrations, contributing to a smoother riding experience
  • Comfortable riding posture, accentuated by the raised handlebar, provides added comfort during extended journeys
  • Easily accessible 815 mm seat height accommodates a wide range of riders
  • Large tires and increased suspension travel make the motorcycle well-suited for long rides, effortlessly handling small potholes and bumps
  • The onboard charging ports are a boon for long rides and daily city commutes

What We Dislike?

  • The instrument cluster offers good information but could have been better and more informative
  • Maneuvering in the city might be a bit difficult due to the big dimensions
  • The windscreen at the front suffers from the wind blast if you are a tall rider say over 5'7 or 5'8 you need to add an extra windscreen extender
  • At triple-digit speeds the vibrations become evident on foot pegs and handlebar

2023 Yezdi Adventure - Design

Yezdi Adventure

The motorcycle's design hasn't changed much from the earlier version. The circular LED headlamp, split seat arrangement, long telescopic front forks with fork gaiters, large spoke wheels, and a metal guard on the fuel tank for attaching extra gear all remain the same.

The back features mounts for panniers, a top box plate, and a round LED tail lamp. Despite the lack of major design alterations, the bike retains its distinctive features, making it stand out. Every part of the design of the Yezdi Adventure speaks about its Adventure characteristics.

2023 Yezdi Adventure - Features

Yezdi Adventure

In terms of features, the Yezdi Adventure covers all the essentials without anything too fancy. It has dual-channel ABS, 3 ride modes for added control-rain, road, & off-road, a circular LCD digital instrument cluster, and Bluetooth connectivity. The Bluetooth feature allows riders to receive call and message notifications directly on the cluster, and turn-by-turn navigation support, among other useful functions.

Yezdi Adventure

While it may not have extravagant extras, the Yezdi Adventure ensures you have the necessary features for a smooth and connected riding experience.
However, a notable feature of the bike is the considerate inclusion of charging ports, offering both Type A and Type C options. This proves to be a valuable asset for urban rides and extended commutes.

2023 Yezdi Adventure Engine - A Big Update

The big improvements in the motorcycle, making it meet the BS 6 Phase 2 standards and run smoother than before, are mainly in the inside parts of the engine. It now has the same 334 cc engine as the Perak but with a different tuning. This engine gives out 29.8 bhp of power and 29.9 Nm of peak torque. The brand has worked on the crankshaft, and throttle body, and adjusted the ECU to make sure the bike performs well at lower speeds.

Before the update, the bike used to have a tendency to stall at lower speeds, but with the tweaks made to the internal components, this issue has been fixed. Now, the bike provides solid torque across various power ranges, and the engine enjoys being revved up. Its nature has become peppier, and more spirited. While the low-end torque has seen improvement, it's not exceptional, but the mid-range delivers a strong and satisfying grunt. Even at the top end, the performance is reliable and won't let you down.

Yezdi Adventure

The 6-speed gearbox operates smoothly, courtesy of the slipper and assist clutch. The motorcycle effortlessly reaches triple-digit speeds, allowing for a comfortable highway cruise. However, once you hit 5,000 RPM, vibrations start to appear on the footpegs and handlebars, which is a drawback.
When it comes to fuel efficiency, the bike can easily achieve 34-35 kmpl in a mix of highway and city riding.

2023 Yezdi Adventure - Ride & Handling

The 2023 Adventure comes with a front suspension system using telescopic front forks and a rear suspension with a mono-shock absorber. The front suspension provides enough travel to give you a comfortable ride. However, the back suspension can feel a bit bouncy and is on the softer side. The seat height of 815 mm might be a challenge for shorter riders. Despite its weight of 198 kg, it's manageable both on regular roads and off-road, offering good cornering capabilities.

2023 Yezdi Adventure - Off-Road Capabilities

The Yezdi Adventure excels in tackling off-road terrain effortlessly. It demonstrates comfort on such tracks, as we experienced during the Jawa-Yezdi Encamp ride on a loose sandy trail in Rajasthan, where it conquered the path with ease. With a 220mm ground clearance, it has ample space to navigate, and revving the bike in the torque band effortlessly pulls it through sandy areas. The combination of a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel proves beneficial in handling various terrains.

Verdict

The Yezdi Adventure presents itself as an affordable adventure motorcycle, starting at Rs 2.15 lakh (Ex-showroom). It serves well for daily commutes and can handle off-road trails. Following the BS6 phase 2 update, it has gained a peppier performance and improved refinement compared to its pre-update model. Despite being a bit heavier and having room for enhancement in low-end performance and quality, it stands as a practical choice if you're on a budget. However, a drawback lies in its smaller sales and service network in comparison to its main competitor, the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
