As you can see the above table, the BS6 Hyundai Elite i20 offers only 18 km/l from the unit and is the least fuel-efficient. The 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol makes 83 bhp with 115 Nm of peak torque. It was days before the BS6 emission norms that Hyundai dropped the 1.4L diesel with 5-speed MT and 1.4L petrol engine that hosted CVT gearbox from its line-up.
As far as the news is concerned, the next-gen i20 will come in a new-generation avatar with all the bells and whistles. It will carry the regular BS6 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol motor and two new engines. The 1.0L turbo petrol sourced from the Hyundai Venue and 1.5L de-tuned diesel from the Creta.
Coming to the fuel efficiency charts, Maruti Baleno sticks the highest with 23.87 km/l from the 1.2L DualJet motor. And regular 1.2L engine delivers 21.01 km/l in the manual version while for the CVT it gets 19.56 km/l. Toyota Glanza which is a rebadged version of Baleno delivers the same power figures and mileage.
Tata made its debut in the premium hatchback segment just this year and needless to say the petrol engine works well in delivering an efficient 19.05 km/l. The power comes from a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol which makes 86 bhp with 113 Nm of peak torque. It only comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
