The largest maker of EVs hit the ball out of the park by launching their E-SUV, the BYD Atto 3, at the starting price of Rs 24.99 lakh ex-showroom in India. All the speculations about its expected price were put flat on the face, and now the Atto 3 is ready to compete with the MG ZS EV, which is the only other premium EV SUV available in the market.
However, the top-spec variant of the ZS EV is competent enough to be compared with BYD's car. So, here I am to provide a unique take on the Atto 3 base variant. Without further ado, let's compare the base variant of the newly launched car with the British automaker's EV SUV top trim, Essence.

Powertrain and Range of BYD Atto 3 Dynamic vs MG ZS EV Essence
The first trim of the BYD Atto 3 gets a battery pack of 49.92 kWh, which offers a range of 468 km, tested by ARAI. It produces 203 PS (150 kW) and 310 Nm of torque, the same power figures as the other two variants which come with a larger 60.48 kWh battery pack. Additionally, the 0 to 100 km/h distance is covered in 7.3 seconds, and with a DC fast charger, the battery takes 50 minutes to go from 0 to 80 percent. On the other hand, it takes 8 hours from an AC charger.
If we talk about the MG ZS EV, it comes with a standard battery pack of 50.3 kWh, which makes 176.75 PS and 280 Nm of torque, and the 0 to 100 km/h happens in 8.5 seconds. The ARAI-tested range of this EV is 461 km, and with a DC fast charger of 50 kW, it takes 60 minutes to go from 0 to 80 percent. On the other hand, with an AC charger of 7.4 kW, it takes 8.5 to 9 hours to go from 0 to 80 percent.

According to the table, the BYD Atto 3 base model offers several features not found in the ZS EV top model, and vice versa. However, a standout feature of the BYD Atto 3 is its 12.8-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen. This unique technology, not commonly available in many vehicles, adds value.

When comparing dimensions, it's evident that the Atto 3 is larger overall. However, despite its larger size, the ZS EV offers more boot space, ground clearance, and to some extent, more height, which enhances its practicality. Verdict
The BYD Atto 3 starts at Rs 24.99 lakh ex-showroom, and it will certainly affect the sales numbers of the MG ZS EV, as it is a league ahead car. Plus, there are some features in this vehicle that are not even present in the top model of the MG EV. This strategically placed price will attract a lot of customers who are planning to shift to a new segment of premium electric EVs.
