Jawa 42 FJ Vs Rivals: Engine and Performance
Specification | Jawa 42 FJ | Royal Enfield Hunter 350 | Hero Mavrick 440 |
---|---|---|---|
Engine | 350cc, Liquid-cooled, Single-cylinder | 349cc, Air-cooled, Single-cylinder | 440cc, Oil-cooled, Single-cylinder |
Max Power | 29.1 bhp @ 8000 rpm | 20.2 bhp @ 6100 rpm | 27 bhp @ 6500 rpm |
Max Torque | 28.1 Nm @ 6500 rpm | 27 Nm @ 4000 rpm | 38 Nm @ 5000 rpm |
Gearbox | 6-speed | 5-speed | 6-speed |
Key Feature | Peppier ride, smooth delivery | Relaxed ride, ample low-end torque | Balance of power and torque |
Even with a smaller engine than the Hero Mavrick 440, the Jawa 42 FJ emerges as a winner when it comes to pure power. The 42 FJ churns out 2 bhp more than the Mavrick 440. On the other hand, the Hunter 350 produces just 20.2 bhp (much lower than the Jawa 42). Concluding, I would say that If you need pure power then you should go with the Jawa 42, opt for the Hunter 350 for a good low-end torque and choose Mavrick 440 if you want a balance between the power and torque.
Jawa 42 FJ Vs Rivals: Hardware
Specification | Jawa 42 FJ | Royal Enfield Hunter 350 | Hero Mavrick 440 |
---|---|---|---|
Front Suspension | Telescopic | Telescopic Forks | Telescopic Forks |
Rear Suspension | Monoshock (Preload Adjustable) | Twin Shock Absorbers (Preload Adjustable) | Monoshock |

Rear Brake | 240mm Disc (with ABS) | 270mm Disc (with ABS) | 220mm Disc |
Key Feature | Superior suspension and braking hardware | Comfort-tuned suspension, adequate brakes | Decent suspension lacks ABS |
The all-new Jawa 42 FJ offers a more modern hardware configuration than most of its rivals. It gets the largest 320mm front disc brakes which provide superior braking response. The rest of the hardware setup such as suspension remains the same for each motorcycle. I've ridden the Hunter 350 and the Mavrick 440 as well. So, as a part of the conclusion, I would say that the Jawa 42 FJ hardware is good, but it is largely identical to its rivals. The Hunter 350 and the Mavrick 440 also offer a comfortable city riding experience.
Jawa 42 FJ Vs Rivals: Features

The Jawa 42 FJ gets a single pod fully digital instrument cluster which is the same unit provided with the Jawa 42 Bobber. The digital unit shows crucial ride-related information but any lacks the smartphone connectivity function. Also, it has a USB charging port for added convenience for the rider. In comparison the Hunter 350 features a digital inset for the odometer, reserve meter, clock and gear position indicator which feels very basic. The Mavrick 440 features an LCD instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. The Maverick 440's instrument cluster is high on tech with functionalities such as turn-by-turn navigation, smartphone connectivity, e-sim support and call/SMS alerts and it also shows important ride-related information. In terms of technology, the Mavrick emerges as the winner with its most functional digital instrument cluster.

However, the design part is always subjective and I avoid giving my opinion on the design front most of the time. But still, just to make the choosing game easy for you, I'll say that the new Jawa 42 FJ looks modern and aggressive despite being a retro motorcycle. While the Hunter 350 is classic and understated, the Hero Mavrick 440 looks modern and big. So. design-wise, you can go with any of these motorcycles as each of them has their distinct character.
