SUVs in India have become quite the rage. Auto-manufacturers are witnessing exponential sales growth in this segment because people find them to be practical, spacious, and versatile. Gone are the days, when people would view SUVs as suitable for heavy-duty work, and unnecessary for their sheer size. Now, everybody wants to make a statement on road with as many people on board and to do that big-chunky SUVs are the most preferred choice.
Even auto manufacturers recognize this lifestyle statement, and to cater to this some are bringing new SUV models, while some are updating or giving a generation change to their popular SUVs. We have already seen the test mule of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra Scorpio, and Hyundai Creta, plying on Indian roads. Hyundai also unveiled their facelifted Creta, and their India-bound Tucson just received a 5-star rating in the NCAP crash test. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
The test mule of the new generation Vitara Brezza was recently spied on Indian roads. So, the good news is Maruti Suzuki will launch their compact SUV pretty soon. The new Vitara Brezza will retain the same boxy silhouette, but the exterior will be heavily redesigned. The front fascia might remind you of the Toyota RAV4, which is sold in the United States and Europe. The interior will also be updated with several new features. However, it will be powered by the same 1.5-liter petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed torque converter. The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will launch sometime in the middle of 2022 or early 2022.
Tata Punch Turbo
Next, on our list of 10 Upcoming SUVs in India in 2022 is the turbocharged version of the Tata Motors' Maruti Ignis-rival. The Tata Punch has already garnered quite the fan following within a few days of its launch. Its small, tall, and fun to ride. It packs in all the qualities of a proper city car, and at the same time has the potential to go off-road, without any hassle. The Tata Punch is currently the safest sub-compact SUV that you can buy in the Indian market. It has scored 5-stars in the NCAP crash tests. So, to take matters a notch above, Tata will equip the Punch with the turbo engine from the Altroz iTurbo. The official power and torque figures have not been confirmed as of yet, but they will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata will launch the Punch Turbo next year, the official date is yet to be confirmed.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been one of the most anticipated SUVs from Maruti Suzuki. Ever since its global debut, we cant help but be nostalgic about its modern resemblance with the erstwhile Gypsy. The Jimny is available with 3-door and 5-door configurations. India will be privy to the latter option, along with some design changes to suit our market. It will come equipped with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine along with a 4X4 drivetrain option. Maruti Suzuki is already testing the upcoming model, and it is expected to launch sometime mid-next year.
Citroen C3
The French manufacturer debuted in India with their luxurious full-size SUV, the C5. This will be followed by their sub-compact SUV, the C3. Citroen has already unveiled the C3 for the international market. When launched in India, it will come equipped with a 1.2 -liter turbocharged petrol engine mated to both manual and automatic transmissions. The C3 is expected to launch in March next year, and it is estimated to have a starting price of Rs. 5.50 lakh. The C3 could be one of the more important models on our list of 10 Upcoming SUVs in India in 2022.
Mahindra Scorpio
One of the most loved SUVs/MPV in India, the Scorpio has been due for a major overhaul for quite some time now. The test mules of the new-generation Scorpio have already spied on Indian roads but they were heavily wrapped. Yet, from whatever we could gather from the spied image - we can say for sure that the new Scorpio will get a new headlight design and tail lamp. It will be powered by the same petrol and diesel engine that is available with the Mahindra Thar and XUV700. And though nothing has been confirmed., the 2022 Scorpio is expected to launch sometime in the first quarter of next year.

Skoda Kodiaq
The Skoda Kodiaq was quite the SUV from Skoda, before the Kushaq. It was discontinued due to BS6 emission norms. So, after a small hiatus, Skoda will bring back the Kodiaq and is slated for a January launch, next year. It will be bought in India via the CKD route. The exterior of the Skoda Kodiaq will be slightly updated, and this time it will come equipped with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine.

Jeep Meridian
Banking on the astounding success of the Compass, Jeep will launch its elongated version. The Meridian, also known as Commander in America, will be more than just a 7-seater Compass with three rows. It will have the same exterior design but the front fascia will be slightly updated, and from the B-pillar onwards the other differences will occur. It is slated to boast the same 2.0-litre diesel engine found in the Compass, but in the Meridian, it will be more powerful.
Hyundai Creta Facelift
Hyundai revealed the facelifted Creta just a few days back, and it is expected to arrive at Indian showrooms in April 2022, which makes it the most important of all the Upcoming SUVs in India in 2022 we have here. The updated Creta features a familiar front fascia that has become patent with Hyundai SUVs sold abroad like the Santa Fe, for example. This new fascia boasts of a grille design that comes with integrated LED DRLs The headlights have been shifted down to the front bumpers. Similarly, the rear fascia gets a new taillight design as well. However, from the side, the Creta has managed to look the same and its dimensions are expected to remain the same as well. When launched in India, it is expected to be priced between Rs. 11.00 lakh to Rs. 18.00 lakh.
New Maruti Suzuki S-Cross
The new Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross is slated for a global virtual launch on November 25 launch. The new car now boasts of an SUV-ish design, with boxy proportions for both front and rear fascia. It will first go into production for the European market and will enter the Indian subcontinent next year. The official launch date in India is yet to be confirmed, but were expecting it will be sometime in the middle of the next year. The new S-Cross will be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, but the European model is supposedly going to have a 48-volt hybrid system as well.

Hyundai Tucson
The last model on our list of 10 Upcoming SUVs in India in 2022 is the latest Tucson. Hyundai unveiled the fourth-generation crossover last year, in September. Test mules of the fourth-generation Tucson plying on Indian roads have been spied. So, the new Tucson is expected to launch in India in early-2022. The new Tucson will supposedly be powered by the same 2.0-lire diesel engine, mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
