The 2022 Scorpio Classic has lately been introduced by Mahindra with some modest cosmetic tweaks. The 2022 Scorpio Classic is available in the S and S11 models. The Scorpio Classic S version's starting price remains at Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom), while the S11 variant is priced at Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Here are the pros and cons of the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic in case you're considering purchasing one.
Pros
Rugged Stance
The Scorpio is renowned for its rugged posture and bulky build. The same is provided with the new Scorpio Classic. The Scorpio Classic is built on a ladder-on-frame chassis, which enables it to easily handle any terrain. It is adored in both urban and rural settings due to its ruggedness.
More Fuel Efficient Engine
In the 2022 Scorpio Classic, a 2.2-liter diesel engine with 130 bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque is available. This engine is 55 kg lighter and consumes 14% less fuel than the one in the previous model. The manual transmission now includes a new 6-speed cable shift to significantly enhance the driving experience.
Different Seating Configurations
In the 2022 Scorpio Classic, Mahindra offers two distinct seating layouts are available: 7-seater and 9-seater. The 7-seater variant comes in two configurations, one with a bench seat in the second row and two side-by-side seats in the third. The second 7-seater layout has captain's chairs in the second row and a front-facing bench in the third row.
Cons
No Mid or Other Variant
The Scorpio Classic is only available from Mahindra in a base or top-spec model, with a price differential of almost Rs 3.5 lakh between the two. This can deter away buyers who are trying to make a mid-variant purchase on a tight budget. The base model and top model have a significant price difference, and a mid-variant may have closed the gap.
Top-Spec Variant Lacks Some Features
Since it costs more than Rs 15 lakh, the top-spec S11 variant lacks some features that one would anticipate. The inclusion of luxuries like a sunroof, electric folding ORVMs, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Some vehicles at this price bracket offer a variety of modern features that the Scorpio Classic does not.
Pricing Competes With Scorpio N
Mahindra first introduced the Scorpio N, a more advanced and spacious product, before introducing the Scorpio Classic. The Scorpio N is superior to the Scorpio Classic in size, quality, and inside space. The mid-Z6 Scorpio N variant costs almost as much as the top-spec Scorpio Classic model, but the Scorpio N has more features, a better ride, and more room.
Verdict
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is unquestionably a butch SUV, but the company might have made a better product offering by providing a mid-variant. Given the price point it is offered at, several features that are missing from the top-spec variant may have been incorporated. Some consumers may also be turned off by the Scorpio N's price overlap.
