Under the hood, Maruti Baleno will get the 1.2L DualJet motor that generates 89 bhp of power on tap with a peak torque of 113 Nm. Interestingly, the mild-hybrid function is now discontinued from this one. Unlike the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz that are available with two petrol engines on offer, the 2022 Baleno gets only one engine to choose from. The competition also gets oil burner as an option which the new Baleno lacks.
Hyundai i20 is offered with two engine options - 1.2L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated motor and a more powerful, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit. The 1.2L non-turbo makes 82bhp/114 Nm while the smaller 1.0L motor generates 118bhp/172 Nm. It is the only car in the segment to offer CVT for the 1.2L engine as well as a 7-speed DCT for the 1.0L petrol as an option.
