Proper Scrambler Design

Triumph Scrambler 400X

While it is largely similar to the Speed 400, the Scrambler has tasteful design changes to it. In order to make it purposeful for off-road riding, Triumph has made changes to its overall design. The front gets a headlight guard along with knuckle guards. Also, the tubular handlebar is raised on it. Additionally, it gets regular touring mirrors, unlike the bar-end mirrors of the Speed. Other changes include a sump guard protection, a bigger 19-inch front tyre, & a split seat setup. Also, the colour options and graphic design on it are different. It also gets scuff plates for thighs on both sides for good grip during off-road rides. The tyres used on it are also block pattern, hence, providing more grip over the loose tarmac. It also gets a blacked-out exhaust design with a dual-end can and a scuff plate fixed on it.

Features

Triumph Speed 400

The features list on the Scrambler is as same as the Speed 400. It gets a semi-digital instrument console. This round pod provides vital information like the gear position, trip meter, odometer, & service interval info, etc. Meanwhile, the tachometer is small but quite bluntly visible. However, there is no Bluetooth connectivity for smartphones as well as there is no TFT display. Other major highlights of features include an LED headlight, LED taillight, and LED turn indicators. Moreover, for the Scrambler, customers will get a plethora of features. Triumph has made an accessory pack of 75 different accessories out of which customers can choose to modify their bike as per their taste. These include parts like - a taller windscreen, saddlebags, top box mount, auxiliary lights, raised front fender, etc.

Hardware

Triumph Scrambler 400X

Bajaj-Triumph has ensured that the Scrambler offers the best hardware. Hence, the list of parts used is quite long and interesting. For example, it is based on a 19-inch front alloy wheel & a 17-inch rear alloy wheel. Both wheels use tubeless Metzeler rubber but we suspect that the Indian spec will use a different rubber option. Additionally, the front suspension is a USD unit while the rear is a preload adjustable monoshock suspension. The front brake on the Scrambler is a bigger 320mm disc while the rear is a single 230mm disc. Both of these brakes are monitored via a dual-channel ABS. The fuel tank capacity of the Scrambler is 12.5-lt while the kerb weight stands at a light 179 kg mark.

Engine Power

Triumph Speed 400

Bajaj-Triumph has developed an all-new 398.15cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This engine has a sweet mid-range power as per Triumph. It develops a peak power of 39.5 bhp @ 8,000 rpm while the peak torque of 37.5 Nm is achieved @ 6,500 rpm. This power is mated via a 6-speed transmission that also uses a slipper-assist clutch. The most interesting part of this engine is its class-leading service interval of 16,000 km. For now, Triumph has not revealed its performance figures.

Price & Rivals

Both the Scrambler 400X & Speed 400 models will debut on 5 July in India. Upon its launch, the Scrambler will directly compete with the Yezdi Scrambler & Royal Enfield Scram 411 in India. Due to high-quality standards & a bigger brand name, we suspect that it shall be priced upwards of Rs 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom).
