Mahindra Thar 5-Door Details
As seen in the latest spy pics, Mahindra is testing the 5-Door Thar rigorously. The SUV already seems production-ready but Mahindra is waiting on the launch of its rival i.e. Maruti Jimny 5-Door. However, extensive testing means fewer chances of issues after the launch. Most of the components on it will be carried forward from its sibling Mahindra Thar. Meanwhile, it'll get a longer wheelbase to accommodate more space on the inside. Mechanically, it is likely to remain the same. This means the 2.2-lt mHawk diesel & petrol engines will be featured on the 5-door version as well.
So what to expect from it? While its longer wheelbase will shorten its off-road capabilities will remain unchanged. The addition of a wheelbase means the addition of a second row. The test mules spied are fitted with captain seats in the second row. The 5-door version will also likely get more comfort features. These might include the armrests on both of the front two rows, a bigger infotainment system, & possibly the option of bench seats as well on the second row. Mahindra might also fit its AdrenoX system on the 5-door version. Mahindra has recently launched a 4X2 variant of the Thar. However, there is some speculation regarding the same happening with the 5-door version.
Verdict
The 5-door Thar is definitely one of the most-awaited launches of this year. However, its rivals like the Jimny and the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door are surely going to give it a tough time.
