2023 Mahindra Thar 5-Door Details
It's not a surprise that Mahindra has been working on an elongated Thar. Yes, a 5-Door Thar has been in the works for a long time now. However, there are not many test mules and photos of it available until now. The upcoming SUV has started its road testing phase in a completely camouflaged form. The latest spy shots try to showcase to us what this upcoming Jeep Wrangler lookalike can be.
Design-wise, the 5-Door Thar is more or less the same as the current model. However, it is the addition of rear passenger doors that makes it look more sophisticated. The front fascia and the rear end both mimic the current Thar. Meanwhile, the camouflaged alloy wheels look a bit changed; as they should be. Apparently, Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door and Force Gurkha 5-Door are also on their way. Hence, the 5-Door version of Thar makes more sense now. Additionally, we also expect that the interiors of it will embed more comfort and features than the current Thar.
Engine & Specifications
Meanwhile, the engine and the majority of its mechanicals are likely to remain unchanged. The 5-Door Thar will continue using the 2.0-lt petrol and the 2.2-lt m-Hawk diesel engine options. Both of these engine options are available with a set of manual and automatic transmission options. However, there are reports on the internet suggesting to us that a new Pentalink suspension might feature on it. This suspension shall be taken forward from Mahindra Scorpio N. Additionally, the chassis and its underpinnings will also be carried from the newly launched Scorpio N.
It will also be available with a full 4X4 option whilst the standard variants might come with an RWD. The RWD variants will largely suit families and users who tend not to use the Thar off-road a lot. The 4X4 variants will remain a hot hit among off-roading enthusiasts.
Verdict
If you're looking for a family jeep with a mix of comfort and capabilities, the Thar 5-Door is what you need to keep your eyes on. However, the rivals like Jimny and Gurkha will definitely spoil the party for this upcoming Thar.
