What Are RDE Norms?
After implementing the BS6 norms in 2020, the Indian government is now all set to implement phase 2 of the BS6 norms. The upcoming norms are essentially BS6 emission standard phase 2. The RDE norms, as the name implies, require that vehicles attain emissions. The RDE regulations required automakers to measure the number of pollutants a vehicle emits during regular driving conditions. For this, a Portable Emissions Measurement System (PEMS) will be used.
2023 Tata Punch Engine Update
YouTube user "sansCARi Sumit" posted a video of a 2023 Tata Punch with an updated engine. The 2023 Punch's engine bay and powertrain are shown in the video, and that is now less cluttered and has new engine components. The car's NVH (Noise, Vibrations, and Harshness) levels have improved, and the engine is now quieter. With the new RDE-compliant engine, the car has also become more environmentally friendly. Even with the AC running, the cabin feels more refined and silent. Compared to the previous engine, the insulation is now better managed.
The brand's 1.2-liter NA petrol engine, which generates 86 bhp of power and 113 Nm of maximum torque, has not seen any changes in terms of specifications. This engine is paired with an AMT and 5-speed manual transmission.
The car continues to receive a similar design and the same variety of convenience and safety features when it comes to design and feature offerings. The Punch's features include automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, automated headlights, LED DRLs, a puddle lamp, auto-folding ORVMs, diamond-cut alloy wheels, and more. It also has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Punch achieved a 5-Star rating in the GNCAP crash test, making it one of the safest vehicles in its price range.
Verdict: With the new RDE compliant engine the 2023 Tata Punch has become more greener. Tata Punch competes with the Citroen C3, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
